5 Und nun verkläre mich, du Vater, beh dir selbst, mit der Klarheit, die ich beh dir hatte, ehe die Welt war.

6 Ich habe deinen Namen geoffenbaret den Menschen, die du mir von der Welt gegeben hast. Sie waren dein, und du hast sie mir gegeben, und sie haben dein Wort behalten.

7 Nun wissen sie, daß alles, was du mir gegeben hast, seh von dir.

8 Denn die Worte, die du mir gege= ben hast, habe ich ihnen gegeben; und sie haben es angenommen, und erkannt wahrhaftig, daß ich von dir ausge gangen bin; und glauben, daß du mich gesandt haft.

9 Ich bitte für sle, und bitte nicht für die Welt, sondern für die, die du mir gegeben hast, deun sie sind dein.

10 Und alles, was mein ist, das ist dein, und was dein ist, das ist mein; und ich bin in ihnen verkläret.

11 Und ich bin nicht mehr in der Welt; sie aber sind in der Welt, und ich komme zu dir. Heiliger Vater, erhalte ste in deinem Namen, die du mir gegeben hast, daß sie Eins seyn, gleichwie wir.

12 Dieweil ich beh ihnen war in der Welt, erhielt ich sie in deinem Namen; die du mir gegeben hast, die habe ich bewahret, und ist keiner von ihnen verloren, ohne das verlorne Kind, daß die Schrift erfüllet würde.

13 Nun aber komme ich zu dir, und rede solches in der Welt, auf daß sie in ihnen haben meine Freude vollkommen.

14 Ich habe ihnen gegeben dein Wort, und die Welt hasset ste; denn sie sind nicht von der Welt, wie denn auch ich nicht von der Welt bin.

15 Ich bitte nicht, daß du sie von der Welt nehmest, sondern daß du sie bewahrest vor dem Uebel.

16 Sie sind nicht von der Welt, gleichwie auch ich nicht von der Welt bin.

17 Heilige sie in deiner Wahrheit; dein Wort ist die Wahrheit.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee:

8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, thất they may be one, as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee, and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth; thy' word is truth.

18 Gleichwie du mich_gesandt_hast in die Welt, so sende ich auch ste in die Welt.

19 Ich heilige mich selbst für ste, auf baß auch sie geheiliget seyn in der Wahrheit.

20 Ich bitte aber nicht allein für sie, fondern auch für die, so durch ihr Wort an mich glauben werden:

21 Auf daß sie alle eins seyn, gleichwie du, Vater, in mir, und ich in dir; daß auch sie in uns eins sehn, auf daß die Welt glaube, du habest mich gesandt.

22 Und ich habe ihnen gegeben die Herrlichkeit, die du mir gegeben hast, daß sie eins seyn, gleichwie wir eins sind.

23 Ich in ihnen, und du in mir, auf daß sie vollkommen seyn in Eins, und die Welt erkenne, daß du mich gesandt hast, und liebest sie, gleichwie du mich liebest.

24 Vater! ich will, daß, wo ich bin, auch die bey mir seyn, die du mir gegeben hast, daß sie meine Herrlichkeit fehen, die du mir gegeben hast; denn du hast mich geliebet, ehe denn die Welt gegründet ward.

25 Gerechter Vater, die Welt kennet dich nicht; ich aber kenne dich, und diese erkennen, daß du mich gesandt hast.

26 Und ich habe ihnen deinen Na= men kund gethan, und ich will ihn fund thun; auf daß die Liebe, damit du mich liebest, seh in ihnen, und ich in ihnen.

Das 18 Capitel.

18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.

20 Neither pray I for these alone; but for them also which shall believe on me through their word: 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and Í in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

22 And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one;

23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them as thou hast loved me,

24 Father, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them.

CHAPTER XVIII. THEN Jesus had spoken these

2 Judas aber, der ihn verrieth, wußte den Ort auch; denn Jesus versammelte sich oft daselbst mit seinen Jüngern.

3 Da nun Judas hatte zu sich ge= nommen die Schaar, und der Hohenpriester und Pharisäer Diener, kommt

his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.

3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh

mit Waffen.

4 Als nun Jesus wußte alles, was ihm begegnen sollte, gieng er hinaus, und sprach zu ihnen: Wen fuchet ihr?

5 Sie antworteten ihm: Jesum von Nazareth. Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Ich bins. Judas aber, der ihn verrieth, stand auch beh ihnen.

6 Als nun Jesus zu ihnen sprach: Ich bins, wichen sie zurück, und ficlen zu Boden.

7 Da fragte er sie abermal: Wen fuchet ihr? Sie aber sprachen: Jesum von Nazareth.

8 Jesus antwortete: Ich habe es euch gesagt, daß ich es seh. Suchet ihr denn mich, so lasset diese gehen. 9 Auf daß das Wort erfüllet würde, welches er fagte: Ich habe derer keinen verloren, die du mir gegeben hast.

10 Da hatte Simon Petrus ein Schwert, und zog es aus, und schlug nach des Hohenpriesters Knecht, und hieb ihm sein rechtes Ohr ab; und der Knecht hieß Matchus.

11 Da sprach Jesus zu Petro: Stecke dein Schwert in die Scheide. Soll ich den Kelch nicht trinken, den mir mein Vater gegeben hat?

12 Die Schaar aber und der OberHauptmann, und die Diener der Juden nahmen Jesum, und banden ihn,

13 Und führeten ihn aufs erste zu Hannas: der war Caiphas Schwäher, welcher des Jahrs Hoherpriester war.

14 Es war aber Caiphas, der den Juden rieth, es wäre gut, daß Ein Mensch würde umgebracht für das Volf.

15 Simon Petrus aber folgte Jesu nach, und ein anderer Jünger. Derfelbige Jünger war dem Hohenpriester bekannt, und gleng mit Jesu hinein in des Hohenpriesters Pallast.

4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.

8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he. If therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 9 That the saying might be fulfilled which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me, have I lost

none.

10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

11 Then said Jesus unto Peter. Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

12 Then the band, and the captain, and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,

13 And led him away to Annas first, (for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year)

14 Now Caiaphas was he which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

15 T And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. That disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesús, into the palace of the high priest.

17 Da sprach die Magd, die Thürhüterin, zu Petro: Bist du nicht auch dieses Menschen Jünger einer? Er sprach: Ich bin es nicht.

18 Es standen aber die Knechte und Diener, und hatten ein Kohlfeuer gemacht, denn es war kalt, und wärmeten sich. Petrus aber stand beh ihnen, und wärmete sich.

19 Aber der Hohepriester fragte Je= sum um seine Jünger, und um seine Lehre.

20 Jesus antwortete ihm: Ich habe freh öffentlich geredet vor der Welt. Ich habe allezeit gelehrt in der Schule und in dem Tempel, da alle Juden zusammen kommen, und habe nichts im Verborgenen geredet.

21 Was fragst du mich darum? Frage die darum, die gehöret haben, was ich zu ihnen geredet habe; siehe, dieselbigen wissen, was ich gesagt habe. 22 Als er aber solches redete, gab der Diener einer, die dabeh standen, Jesu einen Backenstreich, und sprach: Solist du dem Hohenpriester also autwor

ten?

23 Jesus antwortete: Habe ich übel geredet, so beweise es, daß es böse fen; habe ich aber recht geredet, was schlägst du mich?

24 Und Hannas sandte ihn gebun= den zu dem Hohenpriester Caiphas.

25 Simon Petrus aber stand und wärmete sich. Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Bist du nicht seiner Jünger einer? Er verleugnete aber, und sprach: Ich bin es nicht.

20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.

22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou

me?

24 (Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.)

25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.

28 Da führeten sie Jesum von Caiphas vordas Nichthaus. Und es war früh. Und sie gingen nicht in das Richthaus, auf daß sie nicht unrein würden, sondern Ostern effen möchten.

ear Peter cut off) saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew. 28 ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judg ment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment-hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

29 Da ging Pilatus zu ihnen heraus, und sprach: Was bringet ihr für Klage wider diesen Menschen? 30 Sie antworteten, und sprachen zu ihm: Wäre dieser nicht ein Uebelthäter, wir hätten dir ihn nicht überantwortet.

31 Da sprach Pilatus zu ihnen: So nehmet ihr ihn hin, und richtet ihn nach euerm Gesetze. Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: Wir dürfen Niemand tödten.

32 Auf daß erfüllet würde das Wort Jesu, welches er sagte, da er deutete, welches Todes er sterben würde.

33 Da ging Pilatus wieder hinein in das Richthaus, und rief Jesum, und fprach zu ihm: Bist du der Juden König?

34 Jesus antwortete: Redest du das von dir selbst? Oder haben es dir Andere von mir gefagt?

35 Pilatus antwortete: Bin ich ein Jude? Dein Volk und die hohenpriester haben dich mir überantwortet; was hast du gethan?

36 Jesus antwortete: Mein Reich ist nicht von dieser Welt. Wäre mein Reich von dieser Welt, meine Diener würden darob kämpfen, daß ich den Juden nicht überantwortet würde; aber nun ist mein Reich nicht von dannen.

37 Da sprach Pilatus zu ihm: So bist du dennoch ein König? Jesus antwortete: Du sagst es, ich bin ein König. Ich bin dazu geboren, und in die Welt gekommen, daß ich die Wahrheit zeugen foll. Wer aus der Wahrheit ist, der höret meine Stimme.

38 Spricht Pilatus zu ihm: Was ist Wahrheit? Und da er das gesagt, ging er wieder hinaus zu den Juden, und spricht zu ihnen: Ich finde keine Schuld an ihm.

39 Ihr habt aber eine Gewohnheit, daß ich euch Einen auf Ostern los gebe; wollt ihr nun, daß ich euch der Juden König los gebe?

29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him ac cording to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:

32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, sig. nifying what death he should die.

33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment-hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?

34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?

35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee unto

me.

What hast thou done?

36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.

38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

39 But ye have a custom that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore, that I' release unto you the King of the Jews?
