24 Und des andern Tages kamen sie ein gen Cäsarien. Cornelius aber wartete auf sie, und rief zusammen feine Verwandte und Freunde.

25 Und als Petrus hinein kam, gieng ihm Cornelius entgegen, und fiel zu seinen Füssen, und betete ihn an.

26 Petrus aber richtete ihn auf, und sprach: Stehe auf, ich bin auch ein Mensch.

27 Und als er sich mit ihm besprochen hatte, gieng er hinein, und fand ihrer viele, die zusammen gekommen

waren.

24 And the morrow after they entered into Cesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met hiin, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up: I myself also am a man.

27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

29 Darum habe ich mich nicht geweigert zu kommen, als ich bin herge fordert. So frage ich euch nun, marum ihr mich habt lassen fordern?

30 Cornelius sprach: Ich habe vier Tage gefastet bis an diese Stunde, und um die neunte Stunde hetete ich in meinem Hause. Und siehe, da trat ein Mann vor mich in einem hellen Kleide,

31 und sprach: Corneli, dein Gebet ist erhöret, und deiner Almosen ist gedacht worden vor Gott.

32 So sende nun gen Joppen, und las herrufen einen Šimon, mit dem Zunamen Petrus, welcher ist zur Here berge in dem Hause des Gerbers Simons, an dem Meere; der wird dir, wenn er kommt, sagen.

33 Da sandte ich von Stund an zu dir. Und du hast wohlgethan, daß du gekommen bist. Nun sind wir alle hier gegenwärtig vor Gott, zu hören alles, was dir von Gott befohlen ist.

34 Petrus aber that seinen Mund auf, und sprach: Nun erfahre ich mit der Wahrheit, daß Gott die Person nicht anstehet;

35 Sondern in allerley Volke, wer

of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean..

29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me? 30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner, by the seaside: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation, he that

angenehm.

36 Ihr wisset wohl von der Predigt, die Gott zu den Kindern Israel gesandt hat, und verkündigen lassen den Frieden durch Jesum Christum, (welcher ist ein Herr über alles ;)

37 Die durch das ganze Jüdische Land geschehen ist, und angegangen in Galilää, nach der Taufe, die Johannes predigte:

38 Wie Gott denselbigen Jesum von Nazareth gefalbet hat mit dem heili gen Geiste und Kraft; der umher gezogen ist, und hat wohlgethan und gesund gemacht alle, die vom Teufel überwältiget waren; denn Gott war mit ihm.

39 Und wir sind Zeugen alles deß, das er gethan hat im Jüdischen Lande, und zu Jerusalem. Den haben sie getödtet, und an ein Holz gehänget.

40 Denselbigen hat Gott auferwecket am dritten Tage, und ihn lassen of- | fenbar werden,

41 Nicht allem Volke, sondern uns den vorerwählten Zeugen von Gott, die wir mit ihm gegessen und getrunfen haben, nachdem er auferstanden ist von den Todten.

42 Und er hat uns geboten zu predigen dem Volke, und zu zeugen, daß er ist verordnet von Gott ein Richter der Lebendigen und der Todten.

43 Von diesem zeugen alle Propheten, daß durch seinen Namen alle, die an ihn glauben, Vergebung der Sünden empfangen sollen.

44 Da Petrus noch diese Worte_re= dete, fiel der heilige Geist auf alle, die dem Worte zuhöreten.

45 Und die Gläubigen aus der Beschneidung, die mit Petro gekommen waren, entsetzten sich, daß auch auf die Heiden die Gabe des heiligen Geistes ausgegossen ward.

46 Denn sie höreten, daß sie mit Zungen redeten, und Gott hoch priesen. Da antwortete Petrus:

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did, both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a

tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed, were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost..

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Mag auch Jemand das Wasser wehren, daß diese nicht getaufet werden, die den heiligen Geist empfangen haben, gleichwie auch wir?

48 Und befahl ste zu taufen in demi Namen des Herrn. Da baten sie ihn, daß er etliche Tage da bliebe.

Das 11 Capitel. Es kam aber vor die Apostel und

Brüder, die in dem Jüdischen Lande waren, daß auch die Heiden hätten Gottes Wort angenommen. 2.Und da Petrus hinauf kam gen Jerusalem, zankten mit ihm, die aus der Beschneidung waren,

3 und sprachen: Du bist eingegan= gen zu den Männern, die Vorhaut haben, und haft mit ihnen gegessen. 4 Petrus aber hob an, und erzählte es ihnen nach einander her, und sprach:

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

CHAPTER XI.

ND the apostles and brethren that were in Judea, heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

2 And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 3 Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

4 But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, 5 I was in the city of Joppa pray

6 Darein sah ich, und ward gewahr, und sah vierfüssige Thiere der Erde, und wilde Thiere, und Gewürm, und Vögel des Himmels.

7 Ich hörete aber eine Stimme, die sprach zu mir: Stehe auf, Petre, schlachte und iß.

8 Ich aber sprach: O nein, Herr ; denn es ist nie kein Gemeines noch Unreines in meinen Mund gegangen. 9 Aber die Stimme antwortete mir zum andern Male vom Himmel: Was Gott gereiniget hat, das_mache du nicht gemein.

10 Das geschah aber dreymal; und ward alles wieder hinauf gen Himmel gezogen.

11 Und siehe von Stund an standen dreh Männer vor dem Hause, darinnen ich war, gesandt von Câsarien zu

6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay, and eat.

8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou

common.

10 And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

11 And behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cesarea unto me.

12. Der Geist aber sprach zu mir, ich follte mit ihnen gehen, und nicht zweifeln. Es famen aber mit mir diese sechs Brüder, und wir giengen in des Mannes Haus.

13 Und er verkündigte uns, wie er gesehen hätte einen Engel in seinem Hause stehen, der zu ihm gesprochen hätte: Sende Männer gen Joppen, und laß fordern den Simon, mit dem Zunamen Petrus;

14 Der wird dir Worte sagen, dadurch du selig werdest, und dein ganzes Haus.

15 Indem aber ich anfieng zu reden, fiel der heilige Geist auf sie, gleichwie auf uns am ersten Anfange.

16 Da gedachte ich an das Wort des Herrn, als er sagte: Johannes hat mit Wasser getauft; ihr aber sollt mit dem heiligen Geiste getauft werden.

17 So nun Gott ihnen gleiche Gaben gegeben hat, wie auch uns, die da glauben an den Herrn Jesum Christ: Wer war ich, daß ich konnte Gott wehren?

18 Da sie das höreten, schwiegen sie stille, und lobten Gott, und sprachen: So hat Gott auch den Heiden Busse gegeben zum Leben!

19 Die aber zerstreuet waren in der Trübsal, so sich über Stephano erhob, giengen umber bis gen Phönicien, und Chpern, und Antiochia; und redeten das Wort zu Niemand, denn allein zu den Juden.

20 Es waren aber etliche unter ih= nen, Männer von Cypern und Chrene, die kamen gen Antiochia, und redeten auch zu den Griechen, und predigten das Evangelium vom Herrn Jesu.

21 Und die Hand des Herrn war mit ihnen, und eine grosse Zahl ward gläubig, und befehrte sich zu dem Herrn.

22 Es kam aber diese Rede von ihnen vor die Ohren der Gemeine zu Jerufalem; und sie fandten Barnabam, daß er hingienge bis gen Antiochia.

23 Welcher, da er hingekommen war,

12 And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover, these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:

13 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

14 Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the HoÏy Ghost.

17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I, that I could withstand God?

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen, travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

22 T Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

23 Who, when he came, and had

und sah die Gnade Gottes, ward er froh, und ermahnete sie alle, daß fie mit festem Herzen an dem Herrn bleiben wollten.

24 Denn er war ein frommer Mann, voll Heiligen Geistes und Glaubens, und es ward ein grosses Volk dem Herrn zugethan.

25 Barnabas aber zog aus gen Tarsen, Saulum wieder zu suchen. 26 Und da er ihn fand, führete er ihn gen Antiochia. Und sie blieben beh der Gemeine ein ganzes Jahr, und ›lehreten viel Volks; daher die Jünger am ersten zu Antiochia Christen genannt wurden.

27 In denselbigen Tagen kamen Propheten von Jerufalem gen Antiodia.

28 Und einer unter ihnen, mit Namen Agabus, stand auf, und deutete durch den Geist eine grosse Theurung, die da kommen sollte über den ganzen Kreis der Erde; welche geschah unter dem Kaiser Claudio.

29 Aber unter den Jüngern beschloß ein Jeglicher, nachdem er vermochte, zu fenden eine Handreichung den Brüdern, die in Judäa wohneten.

30 Wie sie denn auch thaten, und schickten es zu den Aeltesten, durch die Hand Barnaba und Sauli.

seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost, and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

27 ¶ And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit, that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judea.

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

CHAPTER XII.

about that time, Herod the

Herodes die Hände au etliche von der Gemeine, sie zu peinigen. 2 Er tödtete aber Jakobum, Johannis Bruder, mit dem Schwerte.

3 Und da er sah, daß es den Juden gefiel, fuhr er fort, und fieng Betrum auch. Es waren aber eben die Tage der süssen Brode.

4 Da er ihn nun griff, legte er ihn ins Gefängniß, und überantwortete ihn vier Viertheiten Kriegsknechten, ihn zu bewahren, und gedachte, ihn nach den Ostern dem Volke vorzustellen.

5 Und Petrus ward zwar im Gefängnisse behalten; aber die Gemeine
