fehen, und uns ivägen und wiegen laf fen von allerley Wind der Lehre, durch Schaltheit der Menschen und Täusche reh, damit sie uns erschleichen zu verführen.

15 Laffet uns aber rechtschaffen seyn in der Liebe, und wachsen in allen Stücken an dem, der das Haupt ist, Christus;

16 Aus welchem der ganze Leib zufammen gefüget, und ein Glied am andern hanget, durch alle Gelenke; da durch eines dem andern Handreichung thut, nach dem Werke eines jeglichen Gliedes in seiner Maaße, und machet, daß der Leib wächset zu seiner selbst Besserung; und das Alles in der Liebe.

17 So sage ich nun und zeuge in dem Herrn, daß ihr nicht mehr wandelt, wie die andern Heiden wandeln in der Eitelkeit ihres Sinnes,

18 Welcher Verstand verfinstert_ist, und sind entfremdet von dem Leben, das aus Gott ist, durch die Unwissen heit, so in ihnen ist, durch die Blindheit ihres Herzens;

19 Welche ruchlos sind, und ergeben sich der Unzucht, und treiben allerley Unreinigkeit sammt dem Geize.

20 Ihr aber habt Christum nicht also gelernet;

21 So ihr anders von ihm gehöret habt, und in ihm gelehret seyd, wie in Jesu ein rechtschaffenes Wesen ist.

22 So leget nun von euch) ab, nach dem vorigen Wandel, den alten Menschen, der durch Lüste in Irrthum sich verderbet.

23 Erneuert euch aber im Geiste euers Gemüths;

24 Und ziehet den neuen Menschen an, der nach Gott geschaffen ist in rechtschaffener Gerechtigkeit und Heiligkeit.

25 Darum leget die Lügen ab, und redet die Wahrheit, ein Jeglicher mit seinem Nächsten, sintemal wir unter einander Glieder sind.

26 Zürnet und sündiget nicht, lasset die Sonne nicht über euerm Zorne untergehen.

more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive:

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

19 Who, being past feeling, have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holi

ness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27 Gebet auch nicht Raum dem Lästerer.

28 Wer gestohlen hat, der stehle nicht mehr, sondern arbeite, und schaffe mit den Händen etwas Gutes, auf daß er habe zu geben dem Dürftigen.

29 Lasset kein faul Geschwätz aus euerm Munde gehen; sondern was nützlich zur Besserung ist, da es Noth thut, daß es holdselig seh zu hören.

30 und betrübet nicht den heiligen Geist Gottes, damit ihr versiegelt sehd auf den Tag der Erlösung.

31 Alle Bitterkeit, und Grimm, und Zorn, und Geschrey und Lästerung seh ferne von euch, sammt aller Bosheit.

32 Sehd aber unter cinander freundlich, herzlich, und vergebet Einer dem Andern, gleichwie Goft euch vergeben hat in Christo.

28 Let him that stole, steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evilspeaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

CHAPTER V.

3 Hurereh aber und alle Unreinigkeit, oder Geiz, lasset nicht von euch gesagt werden, wie den Heiligen zusteht.

4 Auch schandbare Worte, und Narrentheidinge, oder Scherz, welche euch nicht ziemen; sondern vielmehr Danfsagung.

5 Denn das sollt ihr wissen, daß kein Hurer oder Unreiner, oder Geiziger (welcher ist ein Götzendiener) Erbe hat an dem Reiche Christi und Got

6 Lasset euch nicht verführen mit vergeblichen Worten; denn um dieser Willen kommt der Zorn Gottes über die Kinder des Unglaubens.

7 Darum seyd nicht ihre Mitgenosfen.

8. Denn ihr waret weiland Finster

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

8 For ye were sometime dark

niß, nun aber sehd ihr ein Licht in dem Herrn.

9 Wandelt wie die Kinder des Lichts. Die Frucht des Geistes ist allerley Gütigkeit und Gerechtigkeit, und Wahrheit. 10 Und prüfet, was da seh wohlge= fällig dem Herrn.

11 Und habet nicht Gemeinschaft mit den unfruchtbaren Werken der Finsterniß, strafet sie aber vielmehr.

12 Denn was heimlich von ihnen geschieht, das ist auch schändlich zu sagen.

13 Das Alles aber wird offenbar, wenn es vom Lichte gestraft wird. Denn alles, was offenbar wird, das ist Licht.

14 Darum spricht er: Wache auf, der du schläfst, und stehe auf von den Todten, so wird dich Christus erleuch

ten.

15 So sehet nun zu, wie ihr vorsichtiglich wandelt, nicht als die Unweisen, sondern als die Weisen.

16 Und schicket euch in die Zeit, denn es ist böse Zeit.

17 Darum werdet nicht unverstän= dig, sondern verständig, was da seh des Herrn Wille.

18 Und saufet euch nicht voll Weins, daraus ein unordentliches Wesen folgt; sondern werdet voll Geistes,

19 Und redet unter einander von Psalmen und Lobgefängen und geistlichen Liedern, singet und spielet dem Herrn in euerm Herzen.

20 Und faget Dank allezeit für Allez, Gott und dem Vater, in dem Namen unsers Herrn Jefu Christi.

21 Und send unter einander unterthan in der Furcht Gottes.

22 Die Weiber sehen unterthan ihren Männern, als dem Herrn.

23 Denn der Mann ist des Weibes Haupt; gleichwie auch Christus das Haupt ist der Gemeine, und er ist seines Leibes Heiland.

24 Aber wie nun die Gemeine ist Christo unterthan, also auch die Weiber ihren Männern, in allen Dingen.

25 Ihr Männer, liebet eure Weiber,

ness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light; 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth;)

10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

13 But all things that are reproved, are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

14 Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25 Husbands, love your wives,

26 Auf daß er sie heiligte, und hat fie gereiniget durch das Wasserbad im Worte,

27 Auf daß er sie ihm selbst darstellete eine Gemeine, die herrlich sey, die nicht habe einen Flecken, oder Kunzel, oder deß etwas, sondern daß sie heilig seh und unsträflich.

28 Also sollen auch die Männer ihre Weiber lieben, als ihre eigenen Leiber. Wer sein Weib liebet, der liebet sich selbst.

29 Denn Niemand hat je sein eige= nes Fleisch gehaffet; sondern er nährt es, und pflegt seiner, gleichwie auch der Herr die Gemeine.

30 Denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes, von seinem Fleische, und von seinem Gebeine.

31 Um deß willen wird ein Mensch verlassen Vater und Mutter, und seinem Weibe anhangen, und werden zweh ein Fleisch seyn.

32 Das Geheimniß ist groß; Ich sage aber von Christo und der Gemeine.

33 Doch auch ihr, ja ein Jeglicher habe lieb sein Weib, als sich selbst; das Weib aber fürchte den Mann.

Das 6 Capitel. Kinder, seyd gehorsam euern Ettern in dem genu, venit tas ist billig.

2 Ehre Vater und Mutter, das ist das erste Gebot, das Verheißung hat:

3 Auf daß dirs wohl gehe, und du lange lebest auf Erden.

4 Und ihr Väter, reizet eure Kinder nicht zum Zorne; sondern ziehet fie auf in der Zucht und Vermahnung zum Herrn.

5 Ihr Knechte, seyd gehorsam euern leiblichen Herren, mit Furcht und Zittern, in Einfältigkeit euers Herzens, als Christo;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28 So ought men to love their wives, as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the

church.

33 Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself: and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

CHAPTER VI.

in the Lord: for this is right.

2 Honour thy father and mother, (which is the first commandment with promise,)

3 That it may be well with thee,and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

6 Nicht mit Dienst allein vor Augen, als den Menschen zu gefallen, sondern als die Knechte Chrifti, daß ihr solchen Willen Gottes thut von Herzen, mit gutem Willen.

7 Laffet euch dünken, daß ihr dem Herrn dienet, und nicht den Menschen.

8 Und wisset, was ein Jeglicher Gutes thun wird, das wird er von dem Herrn empfangen, er sey ein Knecht oder ein Freher.

9 Und ihr Herren, thut auch dasselbige gegen sie, und lasset das Drohen, und wisset, daß auch euer Herr im Himmel ist, und ist bey ihm kein Ansehen der Person.

10 Zuletzt meine Brüder, sehd start in dem Herrn, und in der Macht seiner Stärke.

11 Ziehet an den Harnisch Gottes, daß ihr bestehen könnet, gegen die lustigen Anläufe des Teufels.

12 Denn wir haben nicht mit Fleisch und Blut zu kämpfen, sondern mit Fürsten und Gewaltigen, nämlich mit | den Herren der Welt, die in der Finsterniß dieser Welt herrschen, mit den bösen Geistern unter dem Himmel.

13 Um deß willen, so ergreifet den Harnisch Gottes, auf daß ihr an dem bösen Tage Widerstand thun, und Alles wohl ausrichten, und das Feld behalten möget.

14 So stehet nun, umgürtet eure Lenden mit Wahrheit, und angezogen mit dem Panzer der Gerechtigkeit,

15 Und an Beinen gestiefelt, als fertig, zu treiben das Evangelium des Friedens, damit ihr bereitet sehd.

16 Vor allen Dingen aber ergreifet den Schild des Glaubens, mit welchem ihr auslöschen könnet alle feurigen Pfeile des Bösewichts.

17 Und nehmet den Helm des Heils, und das Schwert des Geistes, welches ist das Wort Gottes.

18 Und betet stets in allem Anliegen, mit Bitten und Flehen im Geiste, und wachet dazu mit allem Anhalten und Flehen für alle Heiligen,

6 Not with eye-service, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whe

ther he be bond or free.

9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breast-plate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
