people an inheritance in the everlasting mansions by His Death of Expiation, by His Resurrection from the grave, by His Ascension to power. Let us with St. Peter declare, "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."1 With St. Paul let us rejoice, in "God our Saviour, Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is One God, and One Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." 2 With St. John, who heard the Divine promise, Surely I come quickly," let us reverently reply, “ Even so, come, Lord Jesus."3
Christ has ascended into the Heavens; and as the Evangelical history here breaks off, so also must this narrative be concluded. If we have realized the Great Truth of the DEITY OF THE SON OF MAN, as He was on Earth, in the same measure shall we understand the glorified MANHOOD OF THE SON OF GOD, as He is in Heaven. God and Man is one Christ. "One altogether; not by confusion of Substance, but by Unity of Person." In His Incarnation we have the pledge of His sympathies with each child of Adam, whose nature He condescended to take upon Him. Love on the Cross, and Love on the Throne! Love on Earth, and Love in Heaven! All in all Love: for GOD IS LOVE; and CHRIST IS GOD! Human language is too feeble to
1 Acts, iv. 12. Amen." Faber Stapulensis, In Joan., p. 715.
Amen." Ludolphus, Vita Christi, p. 729.
express, human thought too narrow to compass, these mysteries. Sufficient for us, that they are His Word: sufficient for us, that we may love in return. And by His grace we will love, and everywhere tell of His goodness, and what He hath done for our souls:-how we sinners, "who sometimes were far off, are made nigh by the Blood of Christ: for He is our peace." We may attune our hearts in hallelujahs to the voices of angels, and join in the praises of saints and seraphims. We may live in the faith of His promise, that hereafter we shall see Him as He is, and be like Him, and serve Him day and night before the Golden Altar. Then HE That sitteth on the Throne shall dwell among us. Then we shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more: neither shall the sun light on us, nor any heat. For the LAMB, Which is in the midst of the Throne, shall feed us, and shall lead us unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes.1
