Son of God.
SECOND CIRCUIT.
18 157 The Messiah, returning from the Passover, enters
on His Second Circuit in Galilee, and other places.
Passing through the corn fields, declares Himself
to be the Lord of the Sabbath. Cures the man
with a withered hand in the synagogue. The
Pharisees take counsel with the Herodians to
destroy Him. He retires to the lake: the mul-
titudes throng His path
19 164 The Church of Christ. The Messiah prays on a
mountain. Appoints the Twelve Apostles. The
Sermon on the Plain.
20 173 Heals a Centurion's sick servant at Capernaum.
Goes to Nain. Raises the Widow's son to life.
John the Baptist sends two disciples to enquire
if He is the expected Messiah. Jesus bears tes-
timony to the character of John; declares that
John was more than a prophet.
21 185 Christ being at meat in the house of Simon the
Pharisee, a Penitent Woman anoints His feet
with ointment from an alabaster box. He par-
dons her sins. Women minister unto Him. The
Penitent of Nain, not the same woman as Mary
of Magdala, nor Mary of Bethany
22 191 The Messiah being in a house at Capernaum, the
people gather together: His friends seek to lay
hands on Him. He cures a deaf and dumb man
possessed of a devil. Pronounces judgment on

lake: represents the nature of the Kingdom of

seven loaves and a few fishes. Returns to Galilee:
refuses to give the Pharisees a sign from Heaven;
and again returns to the east side of the Lake.

source of the Jordan. Peter confesses Him to
be the Son of the Living God, and receives a
blessing. Christ the Rock of His Church. He
prophesies His Death and Resurrection; is re-

Day of Judgment, and His Transfiguration

Coming of Elias. At the foot of the Mount He
heals a youth, who was deaf and dumb, and pos-

JOURNEY TO JERUSALEM.
38 315 Jesus departs from Galilee to Jerusalem for the
Feast of Tabernacles. He is rejected from a Sa-
maritan village
39 321 At the Feast of Tabernacles teaches in the Temple:
diverse opinions of Him among the people: the
Rulers seek to take Him; rebuke their officers
for not bringing Him before them; and chide
Nicodemus for defending Him. He passes the
night in the Mount of Olives
41 336 Gives sight to a man born blind. The Pharisees
are reproved for their spiritual blindness.
42 342 The Messiah declares Himself to be the Door of
the sheep-fold; and the Good Shepherd
43 350 After the Feast of Tabernacles He returns from Je-
rusalem to Capernaum. From thence sends forth
Seventy Disciples to prepare His way in the
cities of Galilee, which He intended afterwards
to visit. His instructions to them; and His pro-

and thence towards Jerusalem, for the Feast

Again the Jews seek to kill Him. He returns
to Bethabara beyond Jordan. Is recalled to
Bethany by the sickness of Lazarus, whom He

46 378 The Council in Jerusalem resolve to put the Mes-
siah to death. He retires from Judæa to the city
of Ephraim in Samaria, and from thence to Ca-
pernaum.
FOURTH CIRCuit.
Enters on the Fourth and Last Circuit in Galilee.

Christ warns the people against covetousness by
the Parable of the Rich Glutton suddenly called
to his account. All are to watch; and especially the
Stewards of His household. Under the image of
sending fire on the earth He promises the Gift of
the Holy Spirit. Foretells His own sufferings under the figure of Baptism, that is, a Baptism of Blood
48 400 Preaches repentance to the Jews lest they should
perish like the Galileans, whom Pilate had slain
in the Temple. The Parable of the Unfruitful
Fig-tree. Cures a woman with a spirit of in-
firmity on the Sabbath day. Continues to
instruct the people.
49 412 Being at supper on the Sabbath day in the house of a
Chief Pharisee, He heals a dropsical man: teaches
humility: commands that the poor be fed. Pa-
rable of the Great Supper: which is a figure of
the Lord's Supper in the Holy Communion

Teaches those who would be His disciples to forego
all things which hinder them. As a man intend-
ing to build a Tower, or a King intending to go
to war, count the cost before they begin, so His
disciples must do the same, before they take up
the Cross, lest they be found unequal to their pro-

over, teaches at or near to Bethabara. His law
of Divorce. Blesses the young children. In-
structs the Rich Young Ruler how to attain
eternal life. The Parable of the Labourers in
the Vineyard.
56 473 Going up to Jerusalem, takes the Twelve apart, and
foretells His Sufferings, Death, and Resurrection.
In answer to the ambitious request of James and
John to sit on His right hand, and on His left,
in His Glory, He teaches humility, and points to
Himself as their example.
57 482 On His entrance into Jericho heals a Blind Man.
Visits Zacchæus. Parable of the Ten Pounds.
Going out of Jericho heals two other Blind Men
58 491 Comes to Bethany on the 7th day of Nisan. The
next day, being Saturday, the Jew's Sabbath, and
the 8th of Nisan, a supper is prepared for Him.
Mary anoints Him with precious spikenard from
an alabaster box
59 499 The beginning of Holy Week, the 9th of the month
Nisan, answering to Palm Sunday. Christ is
brought into Jerusalem in triumph, the people
crying "Hosanna to the Son of David; Hosanna
in the highest." He enters into the Temple: then
returns to Bethany for the night
60 512 Monday in Holy Week, 10th of Nisan: Christ
coming again from Bethany to Jerusalem, causes
a Fig-tree to wither away. Drives the buyers
and sellers out of the Temple. The children cry,
"Hosanna to the Son of David." He returns at
night to Bethany. .

once more from Bethany to Jerusalem, His
disciples point to the Fig-tree withered away:
the Discourse arising from it. He enters into
the Temple; the Priests and Elders demand His
authority for what He had done there the day

Pharisees. Laments the coming Desolation of
Jerusalem. Commends the Poor Widow's offer-
ing of two mites
65 562 As He is leaving the Temple, He foretells its de-
struction. Goes to the Mount of Olives. Pro-
phesies the fall of Jerusalem; and the signs of His
coming to Judgment
66 575 Christ on the Mount of Olives exhorts all men to
watchfulness. Parable of the Ten Virgins. Pa-
rable of the Talents. Description of the Last

67 586 Tuesday in Holy Week continued. Certain Greeks
come to see Jesus on the Mount of Olives. He
prays to His Father, and is answered by a Voice
from Heaven. Prophesies His Death on the
Cross. Concludes His public teaching by an ex-
hortation to faith in His word
68 596 Wednesday in Holy Week, the 12th of Nisan. The
Chief Priests and Rulers conspire to put Jesus to
death. Judas agrees to betray his Master for
thirty pieces of silver
69 602 Thursday in Holy Week, the 13th of Nisan. The
Eve of the Crucifixion. The day of Preparation
for the Passover. The Last Supper. Christ
washes the disciples' feet. Exhorts them to
humility. Institutes the Sacrament of the Holy
Eucharist. Declares that Judas would betray
Him; and that Peter would deny Him
70 628 Thursday in Holy Week, the Eve of the Crucifixion,
continued. Christ comforts His disciples in a
parting discourse. Declares that in His Father's
House are many mansions. He is the Way, the
Truth, and the Life. He is one with the Father.
Reveals the mystery of the Holy Trinity. Pro-
mises the Gift of the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.
His prayer to the Father for His disciples, and
for all who believe in Him, that they may be one
with Himself, and with the Father
71 646 Thursday in Holy Week, the Eve of the Crucifixion,
continued. The Messiah with His disciples in
the Garden of Gethsemane. In His Agony He is
strengthened by an angel. Is betrayed by Judas,
and taken prisoner by the officers.
72 660 Thursday: Jesus being brought before Caiaphas,
false witnesses speak against Him. He declares
Himself to be the Christ, the Son of the Blessed, the
Son of God is condemned to death by the council
of Chief Priests, Elders, and Scribes; shamefully
treated; thrice denied by Peter; remains a
