dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

9. But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

10. All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

ET Thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of Thy humble servants, and, that they may obtain their petitions, make them to ask such things as shall please Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

PSALM LXXI.

N Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to con

I fusion.

2. Deliver me in Thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline Thine ear unto me, and save me.

3. Be Thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: Thou hast given commandment to save me; for Thou art my rock and my fortress.

4. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

5. For Thou art my hope, O Lord God: Thou art my trust from my youth.

6. By Thee have I been holden up from the womb: Thou art He that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of Thee.

7. I am as a wonder unto many; but Thou art my strong refuge. 8. Let my mouth be filled with Thy praise and with Thy honor all the day.

9. Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.

10. For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,

11. Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

12. O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.

13. Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.

14. But I will hope continually, and will yet praise Thee more and more.

15. My mouth shall shew forth Thy righteousness and Thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.

16. I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of Thy righteousness, even of Thine only.

17. O God, Thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared Thy wondrous works.

18. Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed Thy strength unto this gencration, and Thy power to every one that is to come.

19. Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto Thee?

20. Thou, who hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

21. Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side,

22. I will also praise Thee with the psaltery, even Thy truth, O my God: unto Thee will I sing with the harp, O Thou Holy One of Israel.

23. My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto Thee; and my soul, which Thou hast redeemed.

24. My tongue also shall talk of Thy righteousness all the day long; for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

G

LORY be to God on high, and on earth peace, good will towards men. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For Thou only art holy; Thou only art the Lord; Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE ELEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

MORNING.

THE EPISTLE.-1 Cor. xv. 1.

RETHREN, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all, that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried; and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures; and that He was seen of Cephas; then of the twelve: after that, He was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep: after thaf, He was seen of James; then of all the apostles: and last of all He was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am; and His grace which was bestowed upon me, was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

THE GOSPEL-St. Luke xviii. 9.

ESUS spake this parable unto certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself: God, I thank Thee that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican: I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

PSALM LXXIX.

GOD, the heathen are come into Thine inheritance; Thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. 2. The dead bodies of Thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of Thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.

3. Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

4. We are become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

5. How long, Lord? wilt Thou be angry for ever? shall Thy jealousy burn like fire?

6. Pour out Thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known Thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon Thy name. 7. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling

place.

8. O remember not against us former iniquities: let Thy tender mercies speedily prevent us; for we are brought very low.

9. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for Thy name's sake.

10. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let Him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of Thy servants which is shed.

11. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before Thee; according

to the greatness of Thy power preserve Thou those that are appointed to die;

12. And render unto our neighbors seven-fold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached Thee, O Lord.

13. So we Thy people and sheep of Thy pasture will give Thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth Thy praise to all generations.

PSALM LXXX.

IVE ear, O Shepherd of Israel, Thou that leadest Joseph like a

Glock. Thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

2. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up Thy strength, and come and save us.

3. Turn us again, O God, and cause Thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

4. O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt Thou be angry against the prayer of Thy people?

5. Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

6. Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbors: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

7. Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause Thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

8. Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: Thou hast cast out the heathen and planted it.

9. Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

10. The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

11. She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

12. Why hast Thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck her?

13. The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

14. Return, we beseech Thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

15. And the vineyard which Thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that Thou madest strong for Thyself.
