knowledge, and that faith which worketh by love and overcometh the world. Fill their memories with the words of Thy law. Open their understandings to the truth, as it is in Jesus; so that, made wise unto salvation, they may escape the pollutions of error and sin, and become strong in Thy hands for the maintenance of pure and undefiled religion among men. Grant this for the sake of Jesus

Christ, Thy Son, our Saviour. Amen.

O

A PRAYER FOR MISSIONARIES.

LORD, who didst come from heaven to seek and to save the lost, grant Thy blessing, we beseech Thee, upon Thy servants, the Missionaries, who are extending the knowledge of Thy Cross in the dark places of the earth. Preserve them from every danger to which they may be exposed, from perils by land or sea, from persecution and pestilence, from discouragement in their labors, and from the devices of the adversary. May they see Thy work prospering in their hands; and do Thou hasten the time, O Gracions Saviour, when the multitude of the heathen shall be gathered into Thy fold, and when all in every land who neglect Thy salvation shall be converted unto Thee. And to Thy Name be the praise, to whom, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, be honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN FAITH.

LMIGHTY and ever blessed God, Thou King Eternal, Immortal, and Invisible, who sittest in the highest heavens, and art exalted above all blessing and praise, dispose our minds, we beseech Thee, to receive with meekness every doctrine which Thou hast revealed. Teach us to know Thee, our God, to adore Thee for Thy holiness, and to love Thee for Thy goodness to the children of men. Open Thou our eyes, that we may see ourselves to be sinners in thy sight, partakers of a fallen nature, as well as

actual transgressors against Thee. Make us to know our continual need both of Thy pardoning mercy and Thy quickening grace. Enable us to receive Jesus Christ as the only Saviour of our souls. May we trust in His death upon the cross as the all-sufficient atonement for our offences, and rely on His intercession as our only hope. Rejoicing in Thy free salvation, and renouncing our own righteousness, may we ever acknowledge Thee as our Lord, and walk in the way of Thy commandments, laboring in Thy service, and striving against every sin: which blessings we ask in the name and through the merits of the same Jesus Christ, our blessed Redeemer. Amen.

T

A THANKSGIVING.

our prayers, O Lord, we join our unfeigned thanks for all Thy mercies; for our being, our reason, and all other endowments and faculties of soul and body; for our health, friends, food and raiment, and all the other comforts and conveniences of life. Above all, we adore Thy mercy in sending Thy only Son into the world, to redeem us from sin and eternal death; and in giving us the knowledge and sense of our duty towards Thee. We bless Thee for Thy patience with us, notwithstanding our many and great provocations; for all the directions, assistances, and comforts of the Holy Spirit; for Thy continual care and watchful providence over us through the whole course of our lives; and particularly for the mercies and benefits of this day beseeching Thee to continue these Thy blessings to us; and to give us grace to show our thankfulness in a sincere obedience to His laws, through whose merits and intercession we received them all, Thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Here the Minister may use such other prayers or thanksgivings as occasion may require, either wrillen or extempore, or he may give a space for silent prayer.

ALMI

LMIGHTY God, who hast promised to hear the petitions of those who ask in Thy Son's name, we beseech Thee mercifully to incline Thine ears unto us, who have now made our prayers and supplications unto Thee; and grant that those things which we have faithfully asked according to Thy will may effectually be obtained, to the relief of our necessity, and to the setting forth of Thy glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let the LITANY SERVICE be opened by the Singing of a Hymn or Anthem.

IF

Minister.

F we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Answer. But if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Minister. Lord, hear our prayer.

Answer. And let our cry come unto Thee.

Minister. Let us pray:

[All Kneeling.]

Minister and People.

TURN

URN Thou us, O good Lord, and so shall we be turned.

Be favorable, O Lord, Be favorable to Thy people, Who turn to Thee repenting and praying. For Thou art a merciful God, Full of compassion, long-suffering, and of great pity. Thou sparest when we deserve punishment, And in Thy wrath thinkest upon mercy. Spare Thy people, good Lord, spare them, And let not Thine heritage be brought to confusion. Hear us, O Lord, for Thy mercy is great, And after the multitude of Thy mercies look upon us; Through the merits and mediation of Thy blessed Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Minister.

MOST mighty God, and merciful Father, who hast compassion upon all men, and hatest nothing that Thou hast made; who wouldest not the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his sin, and be saved; mercifully forgive us our trespasses; receive and comfort us, who are grieved and wearied with the burden of our sins. Thy property is always to have mercy; to Thee only it appertaineth to forgive sins; spare us, therefore, good Lord; spare Thy people, whom Thou hast redeemed; enter not into judgment with Thy servants, who are vile earth, and miserable sinners; but so turn Thine anger from us, who meekly acknowledge our vileness, and truly repent us of our faults; and so make haste to help us in this world, that we may ever live with Thee in the world to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

UR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Minister.

IVE ear to the words of our mouth, O God.

GIV

And despise not the sighing of our contrite hearts. Let our prayer be set before Thee as the incense;

And the lifting up of our hands as the evening sacrifice.

O remember not against us former iniquities.

Let Thy tender mercy speedily deliver us.

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy Name.
