A FORM of MORNING PRAYER, for the Use of FAMILIES.

As foon as the Family can be called together (and the fooner it be done, the better,) let the Mafter of the Houfe, or fome Other Perfon appointed by Him;

First, Read the Pfalms, in Order for the Day:

Then a Chapter out of the New Teftament, beginning with
St. Matthew's Gospel, and fo continuing on every Day, in
Order, to the End of the Acts of the Apoftles.

After which, let all kneel down, and let the Master of the Family, if he be able, go to Prayers with Them in the following manner.

Revent us, O LORD, in all our Doings, with thy moft gracious Favour, and further us with thy continual Help, that in all our Works begun, continued, and ended in Thee, We may glorify thy holy Name; and finally, by thy Mercy, obtain Everlasting Life, through Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I.

We Blefs, and Praife thy Holy Name, O Heavenly Father, that Thou haft been gracioufly pleased to keep and preferve Us this Night paft; * To refresh *If any thing has us with comfortable Reft; and to Raife Us happen'd to disturb it, up this Morning, to magnify thy Favour this Claufe must be and Loving-kindnefs towards Us.

O LORD! We acknowledge, that it is of thy Mercy alone that we have not long fince been cut off in the midst of the many Great, and Crying Sins, which we have committed, as We have moft juftly deferved: But are ftill preferved to Adore thy Goodness; to Confefs Our Unworthinefs; and to implore thy Pardon and Forgivenefs.

Grant, we beseech thee, unto us, Merciful LORD! fuch a due Sense of thy Patience, and Long-fuffering towards us, as may lead us effectually to Repentance: And give us Grace fo ferioufly to confider the Shortnefs, and Uncertainty

Uncertainty of our Lives, that we may make haste, and not delay the time, to keep thy Commandments; nor any longer put off that great Work upon which our Eternal Happiness depends.

And now that thou haft been pleased to bring us fafely to the Beginning of this Day, vouchfafe, O LORD! to defend us in the fame by thy mighty Power; and grant that neither the Examples, or Solicitations, of Wicked Men ; nor the Distractions of our worldly Affairs; nor the Allurements of any finful Lufts and Pleafures; may either hinder us in our Duty, or draw us into the Commiffion of any Evil contrary thereunto: But fo Strengthen us by thy Grace, and protect us by thy good Providence, that no Temptations may come upon us, or none but fuch as Thou wilt enable us to Withstand, and Overcome.

To this End, keep us, we befeech Thee, this Day under a conftant Senfe of thine All-feeing Eye: Make us ferioufly to Confider, that Thou our God art ever present with Us; That Thou beholdeft all our Actions; Hearest all our Words; and that the very Secrets of our Hearts are not hid from Thee: That thou noteft in thy Book whatsoever we Think, Speak, or Do now; and wilt for all these Things, bring us to Judgment, at the great and terrible Day of thy Appearing. O! let the Hour of our Death, and the Day of Thy Judgment; the Glories of Heaven, and the Torments of Hell; be always fo fresh in our Remembrance, that they may keep us from Offending; and make us continually Careful fo to live here, that we may be Happy for Ever.

And Grant, O LORD! that we may not only be watchful againft Sin, but diligent to embrace all Opportunities of: Doing Thee Service. Make us truly pious towards Thee our God; Juft and Charitable towards our Neighbours Honeft and Upright in our feveral Callings and Employs; Humble and Modeft, Chafte and Temperate, Sober and Orderly, in our whole Lives and Converfations; and Ready to Do all the Good we can to All Men, whether they be Fries, or Enemies, according to thy Command and Example.

More particularly, We pray Thee to blefs us this Day in the due Obfervation of that Holy Reft, to which thou haft Confecrated it. Fit and prepare our Souls for thy Service; and grant that we may come with pure Hearts, and lift up Holy Hands before thee in thy Church, without Wrath, or Doubting. Let our Prayers has be acceptable in thy Sight; and let thy Us: Grant Grace accompany our Hearing, and Readus fo to be- ing of thy Word; that with meek Hearts, have our and due Reverence we may attend to, felves in it, and receive the fame, and bring forth that We the Fruits thereof with Thanksgiving. O! may not ofGrant us fo to behave ourselves this fend Thee, Day, that we may not offend Thee, Nor bring upon ourselves the Remembrance of an Evil Confcience at Night. But let all our Thoughts, Words, and Actions be Holy and Innocent; Ufeful and Profitable as becomes the Servants of Chrift: That fo when the Days of our fhort Abode here fhall be ended, we may depart in Peace, and reft in Hope, and finally be reftored to the Joys and Glories of a Bleffed, and Happy Refurrection; thro' the Merits and Mediation of thy dear Son, Jefus Christ our Lord. Amen.

II.

In whofe Name, and for whofe Sake, we beseech Thee graciously to accept our Supplications, and Prayers, which we farther make before Thee for the whole Race of Mankind: For those who are yet in Darkness, and in the Shadow of Death; That the Light of thy glorious Gofpel may, in thy good time, fhine upon them; and bring them to the Acknowledgment, and Obedience of the Truth.

Blefs the Holy Catholick Church: Grant that all They that do Confefs thy Holy Name, may agree in the Truth of thy Holy Word; and live in Unity, and Godly Love.

Let

Let the choiceft of thy Bleffings reft upon that part of thy Church of which we are Members. Heal its Breaches, Enlarge its Borders, and Unite its Divifions. Pour

out upon all, Thofe, who are in the Communion of it a Spirit of Zeal and Piety; of Peace and Charity; of Humility and Obedience: And grant that we may All live agreeably to our Holy Profeffion; without Scandal, and without Reproach; that Others feeing our Good Works, may come in unto Us, and Glorify Thee our Father

which art in Heaven.

Bless all Chriftian Kings, Princes, and Governors; but especially Him whom Thou haft fet in Authority over Us. Preferve His Perfon, and profper His Government: And grant that we may lead quiet, and peaceable Lives; under Him, in all Godlinefs and Honefty.

Give a double Portion of thy Spirit to the Bifhops and Paftors of thy Church: Endue them with Wifdom and Understanding from above; and enable them fo faithfully to guide, and to inftruct, thy People committed to their Charge, that they may both Save Themselves, and Thofe

that hear Them.

Comfort and Support all those who are in any Affliction, or Distress, whether of Mind, Body, or Eftate: Heal the Sick; Support the Weak; Relieve the Needy; and Defend the Oppreffed: Be a Father to the Fatherlefs, and plead the Cause of the Widow: And give unto them All a Spirit of Patience and Refignation to thy divine Will, under their Sufferings, and when thou seest fit, a Happy Iffue out of all their Troubles.

Be more especially Gracious to all our Relations and Friends: Return all the Good they have done us, manyfold into their Bofoms; and grant them, O LORD, whatfoever thou knoweft to be Needful or Expedient for them; The Comforts of this Life, and the Everlafting Happiness of the Life which is to come.

And while we Pray unto Thee for Others, give us, we befeech thee, O Merciful God! a Portion in all the good Prayers which are any where offered up unto Thee by any Others on our behalf: And make both Them and Us

Partakers

Partakers of the Interceffion of thy Son; that by his Death and Paffion, we may attain to the Joys of a Bleffed and Glorious Refurrection; thro' the fame Jefus Christ our Lord; to whom with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, be Honour and Praise for Ever and Ever. Amen.

III.

And now, O Father of Mercies, and God of all Comfort, with these our Supplications, and Prayers, which we have offered unto thy divine Majefty, accept our Morning Sacrifice of Praife and Thanksgiving for all thy Mercies, and Bleffings which thou haft vouchfafed unto Us. For our Life, Health, Food, and Raiment: For the continual Protection of thy good Providence, by which we are kept from Dangers: For the many gracious Deliverances Thou haft often afforded Us out of fuch as have befallen Us; And for that Goodness of thine whereby thou haft Sweeten'd, and Allay'd thofe Evils, thou haft not feen fit wholly to remove. But above all We blefs thy Holy Name, O God, for thine unfpeakable Love in the Redemption of the World, by our Lord Jefus Chrift, and for all thofe Bene fits we thereby enjoy, in order to our Eternal Happinefs. For the Light of thy Gospel, and the Affiftance of thy Grace For the comfortable Promifes of the Forgiveness of our Sins; and the Time and Opportunity of working out our Salvation: which thou art pleafed in thy great Goodnefs ftill to continue to Us. Grant, we befeech thee, moft merciful Father, that we may fhew? forth thy Praife not only with our Lips, but in our Lives, by giving up ourselves to thy Service, and by walking before thee in Holinefs and Righteoufnefs all our Days, through Jefus Christ our Lord; in his Name, and in his Words, in behalf of Ourfelves, and all our Friends, and of all thy Servants, we moft humbly and heartily pray.

Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name; thy Kingdom come; thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven; Give us this Day our Daily Bread, and forgive our Trefpaffes, as we forgive them that Trespass against us; And lead us not into Temptation, but deliver us from Evil;
