put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

13. Then some brought young children to him to touch; and his disciples rebuked those who brought them.

14. But when Jesus saw it he was much displeased, and said, Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not; for of such like is the kingdom of God. 15. Verily I tell you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God (humbly) as a little child, shall not enter into it. 16. Then taking them up in his arms, he put his hands on them, and blessed them.

17. And going into the way, there came one running, kneeling to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

18. Then Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 19. Thou knowest the commands, Do no whoredom, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and thy mother.

20. Then he said, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

21. Then Jesus, beholding him, loved him, and said to him, One thing thou wantest: go, sell whatever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, (and be ready to suffer) and follow me.

22. But he was sad at that saying, and went a way sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

23. Then Jesus looking around, said unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

24. Then the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus again said to them, Children, how difficult is it for them that trust in riches (and cannot part with them to the poor, and trust in pro

vidence) to enter into the kingdom of God. 25. It is extremely difficult, and hardly possible for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

26. Then they were exceedingly astonished, say. ing among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27. But Jesus, looking upon them, saith, With men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

28. Then Peter said to him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.

29. Then Jesus replied, Verily I tell you, none that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30. But he shall receive in this life an hundred fold (more joy and comfort even in persecutions, than in) houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, and in the world to come, eternal life. 31. But many

that were first shall be last, and the last shall become first. (There be first in the way that shall be last in attaining the end, or lose it, see Matth. xix. 30).

32. And being in the way going up to Jerusalem, Jesus went before them, and they were amazed as they followed, and were afraid. Then again he told the twelve what things should befal him, 33. Saying, lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be delivered to the chief priests, and to the scribes, who shall condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; 34. And they shall mock him, and scourge him, and spit on him, and kill him; and the third day he shall rise again.

35. Then James and John, Zebedee's sons, come to him, saying, Master, we wish thee to do for us whatever we desire.

36. Then he said to them, What desire ye me to do for you? 57. They replied, Grant that we may sit the one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

38. But Jesus said to them, Ye know not what

ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism wherewith I am to be baptized?

39. They replied, We can. Jesus said, Ye shall indeed suffer persecution and martyrdom, and have a bloody baptism; 40. But to sit on my right hand, and on my left, I cannot give, except to those for whom it is prepared by the Father.

41. When the ten heard it, they were much displeased with James and John.

42. But Jesus calling them to him, said, Ye know that they who are accounted the chief of the Gentiles, rule over them; and their grandees have authority above them. 43. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever will be great among you, must be your minister; 44. And who ever of you will be the chief, shall be servant of all. 45. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for

many.

46. Now they came to Jericho; and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimeus, the son of Timeus, sat by the way side begging.

47. And hearing that Jesus of Nazareth passed, he began to cry out, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

48. And many charged him to be silent; but he cried much more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. 49. Then Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called, so they called him, saying, Take courage, arise, he calleth thee. 50. Then casting away his mantle, he came to Jesus.

51. Now Jesus said to him, What wilt thou have me to do for thee? He said, Lord, that I might receive my sight. 52. Jesus said to him, Depart, thy faith hath made thee whole. So immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

CHAP. XI.

CHRIST RIDETH INTO JERUSALEM.

AND being come to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples, 2. Saying, Go into the village opposite to you; and as soon as ye enter it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. 3. And if any man say to you, Why do ye this? say ye, the Lord hath need of him; and immediately he will send him hither.

4. So they departed, and found the colt tied by the door without, in a place where two ways met, and they loose him.

5. Then some who stood there, said to them, What do ye loosing the colt? 6. Then they said as Jesus had commanded; so they let them go.

7. Then they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their mantles on him, and he sat on him. 8. And many spread their mantles in the way, and others cut down branches off the trees, and spread them in the way. 9. And they that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna, (save I pray :) blessed is he that cometh in the Lord's name. Blessed be the kingdom (typified and represented by that) of our father David: all hail in the highest.

11. Then Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple; and having looked around upon all things, and the evening being come, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

12. And on the morrow, coming from Bethany, he was hungry. 13. And seeing a fig-tree at a distance, having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and he found nothing but leaves, but where he was it was the time of figs. 14. Then Jesus said, Let no man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

15. And being come to Jerusalem, Jesus went

into the temple, and began to drive out them that sold and bought in the court, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 16. And would not suffer any to carry any vessel thro' the temple.

17. Now he taught, saying, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

18. Now the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought to destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people were astonished at his doctrine.

19. But at even he went out of the city.

20. And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig-tree dried up from the roots.

21. Then Peter remembering, said to him, Master, behold, the fig-tree which thou devotedst, is withered away.

22. Then Jesus replied, Have faith in God. For verily I tell you, whoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed, and cast into the sea, and doubt not in his heart, but believe that what he saith shall come to pass, he will have whatever he saith. 24. Therefore I tell you, Whatever things ye ask in prayer, believe ye will receive them, and ye shall have them. 25. And when ye stand praying, (if any have injured you and repent,) forgive; that your Father in heaven may also forgive your trespasses. 26. But if ye forgive not, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.

27. And coming again to Jerusalem, as he was walking in the temple, the scribes, chief priests, and elders come to him, 28. And said, By what authority dost thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

29. But Jesus said, I will also ask you one question: answer me; then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30. Was John's baptism from heaven, or of men? answer me.
