A reed thaken with the wind? 25 But what went ye out for to tee? A man clothed in foft raiment! Behold, Chrift's opinion of John. CHAP. VII. Chrift's feet anointed. Behold, they which are gorgeously knew that Jesus fat at meat in the apparelled, and live delicately, are Pharifees house, brought an alain kings courts. 26 But what went ye out for to fee? A A prophet? Yea. I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 27 This is be of whom it is written, Behold, I fend my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 28 For I fay unto you, Among those that are born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptift: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 29 And all the people that heard bim, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. bafter-box of ointment, 38 And ftood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kiffed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now, when the Pharisee which had bidden him, faw it, he ipake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him; for she is a finner. 40 And Jesus anfwering, faid unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he faith, Mafter, fay on. 30 But the Pharifees and lawyers 41 There was a certain creditor rejected the couniel of God against which had two debtors; the one themselves, being not baptized of owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. him. 31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? 32. They are like unto children fitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, and faying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. 33 For John the Baptift came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ve fay, He hath a devil. 34 The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and finners! 35 But wisdom is justified of all her children. 42 And when they had nothing to pay he frankly forgave them both. Tell me, therefore, which of them will love him moft? 43 Simon anfwered, and faid, I suppose that be to whom he forgave most. And he faid unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. 44 And he turned to the woman, and faid unto Simon, Seeft thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gaveft me no water for my feet: but the hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman, fince the time I came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 Mine head with oil thou didft not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her fins, which are many, are forgiven; for the loved much: but to The parable of the fower, 36 And one of the Pharisees defired him that he would eat with him. A CHAP. VIII. Women minister to Christ. ND it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village preaching, and thewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God; and the twelve were with him, 2 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went feven devils, 3 And Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. 4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: 5 A fower went out to fow his feed: and, as he fowed, fome fell by the way-fide; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it 6 And fome fell upon a rock; and as foon as it was fprung up it withered away, because it lacked moifture. 7 And fome fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. 8 And other fellon good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundred-fold. And, when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples afked him, faying, What might this parable be? parables; that feeing they might not fee, and hearing they might not understand. 11 No the ja able is this The feed is the word of God. 12 Thofe by the way-lide are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their bearis, left they should believe and be faved. 13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares, and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15 But that on the good ground are they, which, in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. 161 No man when he hath light. ed a candle covereth it with a veffel, or putteth it under a bed; but fetteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may fee the light. 17 For nothing is secret that shall not be made manifeft; neither ang thing hid that shall not be known, and come abroad. 18 Take heed, therefore, how ye hear: for whofoever hath, to him shall be given; and whofoever hath not, from him thall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. 19 'Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the prefs. 20 And it was told him by certain, which faid, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, defring to tee thee. And they launched forth. 23 But asthey failed he fell aflceр: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to him, and awoke him, faying, Master, Master, we perish. Then he arofe, and rebuked the wind, and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 Andbefaiduntothem, Where is your faith? And they, being afraid, wondered, faying one to another, What manner of manis this? for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. 26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And, when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man which had devils long time, and ware no elothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. 28 When he faw Jesus he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice faid, What have I to do with thee, Jefus, thou Son of God most high? I befeech thee torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him; and he was kept bound with chains, and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he faid, Legion; because many devils were entered into him. And he fuffered them. 33 Then went the devils out of the mar., and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed them faw what was done they fled, and went and told it in the city, and in the country. 35 Then they went out to fee what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, fitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 36 They alfo which fow it told them by what means he that was poffeffed of the devils was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about befought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear. And he went up into the ship, and returned back again. 38 Now the man, out of whom the devils were departed, befought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, faying, 39 Return to thine own house, and fhew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done uuto him. 40 Anditcame to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him. 41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and he fell down 42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and the lay a dying.
