Cbrifts teftimony of John. S. MATTHEW. Choruzin upbraided. 2 Now, when John had heard children fitting in the markets, and in the prifon the works of Christ, calling unto their fellows, he fent two of his difciples,

3 And faid unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

4 Jefus answered, and said unto them, Go,andshew John again those things which ye do hear and fee:

5 The blind receive their fight, and the lame walk; the lepers are cleanfed, and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gofpel preached to them. 6 And bleffed is he, whosoever fhall not be offended in me.

71 And, asthey departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to lee? A reed fhaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings houses.

9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I fend my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not rifen a greater than John the Baptift: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12 And from the days of John the Baptift until now, the kingdom of heaven fuffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13 For all the prophets and the law prophefied until John.

14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias which was for to come.

Is He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they fay, Behold a man gluttonous, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and finners: but wisdom is juftified of her children.

201 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not.

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethfaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in fackcloth and ashes.

22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, thalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 But I fay unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for thee.

25 At that time Jesus answered, and faid, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wife and prudent, and haft revealed them unto babes.

26 Even fo, Father; for fo it feemed good in thy fight. 27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth

The Pharifees reproved.

At that time Jesus went on the fabbath-day through the corn: and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the fabbath-day.

3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;

4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shew-bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5 Or, Have ye not read in the law, how that on the fabbath-days the priests in the temple profane the fabbath, and are blameless?

6 But I fay unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. 7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not facrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath-day.

91 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue.

12 How much then is a man better than a fheep? Wherefore it is law ful to do well on the fabbathdays.

15 But when Jesus knew it he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him and he healed them all;

16 And charged them, that they should not make him known:

17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Efaias the prophet, saying,

18 Behold my fervant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my foul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the ftreets.

20 A bruised reed shalt he not break, and fsmoaking flax shall he not quench, till he fend forth judgment unto victory.

21 And in his name shall the Gentiles truft.

The parable of the fower.
HE fame day went Jesus out
of the house, and fat by the

sea-fide.

2 And great multitudes were gathered together usto him, so that he went into a ship, and fat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a fower went forth to fow:

4 And when he fowed, fome feeds fell by the way-fide, and the fowls came and devoured them up.

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing, see not; and hearing they hear not; neither do they understand.

14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Efaias, which faith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and feeing ye shall fee, and shall not perceive:

15 For this people's heart is waxed grofs, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; left at any time they should fee with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and thould understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

16 But bleffed are your eyes, for they fee; and your ears, for they hear.

5 Some fell upon stony places, 17 For verily I say unto you, That

many prophets and righteous men have defired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard

7 And fome fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up and choked them.

18 Hear ye, therefore, the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and under

31 Another parable put he forth untothem, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustardfeed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

32 Which indeed is the least of all feeds; but when it is grown it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree; fo that the birds of the air come and lodge in the

23 But he that received feed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, fome an hundredfold, fome fixty, fome thirty.

24 Another parableputheforth untothem, faying, 'The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which fowed good feed in his field;

25 But, while men flept, his enemy came and fowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the bladewassprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares alfo.

27 So the fervants of the householder came, and faid unto him, Sir, didft not thou fow good feed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He faid unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants faid unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; left, while ye gather up the tares, ve root up alfo the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will fay to the reapers, Gather ye together firft the tarves, and bind them in bundles to burn

33 Another parable spake he untothem, The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

34 All these things spake Jefus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:

35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept fecret from the foundation of the world.

36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and west into the houfe; and his difciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37 He answered, and faid unto them, He that foweth the good feed is the Son of man;

38 The field is the world; the good feed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

39 The enemy that fowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

40 As, therefore, the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; fo shall it be in the end of this world.

41 The Son of man shall fend forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that
