49 So fhall it be at the end of the world: the angels fhall come forth, and fever the wicked from among the juft,

so And fhall caft them into the furnace of fire; there fhall be wailing and gnathing of teeth.

51 Jefus faith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They fay unto him, Yea, Lord.

52 Thenfaid he unto them, There fore every fcribe which is inftructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53 And it came to país, that, when Jefus had finished thefe parables, he departed thence.

55 Is not this the carpenters fon? is not his mother called Mary ? and his brethren, James, and Jofes, and Simon, and Judas?

56 And his fifters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

57 And they were offended in him. But Jefus faid unto them, A prophetis not without honour, fave in his own country, and in his own houfe.

58 And he did not many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

CHA P. XIV.
Herod's opinion of Chrift.
Tthat time Herodthetetrarch

heard of the fame of Jefus,

2 And faid unto his fervants, This is John the Baptift: he is rifen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do fhew forth themselves in

3¶ For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prifon for Herodias fake, his brother Philips wife.

4 For John faid unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

5 And when he would have put him to death he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herods birth-day was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would afk.

8 And the,being beforeinftructed of her mother, faid, Give me heie John Baptift's head in a charger,

And the king was forty: nevertheless, for the oaths fake, and

them

16 But Jefus faid unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

17 And they fay unto him, We have here but five loaves and two fishes.

18 He faid, Bring them hither to me.

19 And he commanded the mul-titude to fit down on the grafs, and took the five loaves and the two fifhes, and, looking up to heaven, he bleffed, and brake, and gave the loaves to bis difciples, and the difciples to the multitude.

20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, befides women and children

22 And ftraightway Jefus contrained b fciples to get into a

23 And when he had fent the multitudes away he went up into a mountain apart to pray; and when the evening was come he was there alone.

24 But the fhip was now in the midft of the fea toffed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

And in the fourth watch of the night Jefus went unto them walking on the lea.

26 And when the difciples faw him walking on the fea they were troubled, faying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

27 But ftraightway Jefus fpake unto them, faying, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

28 And Peter anfwered him, and faid, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

29 And he faid, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the fhip, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

30 But when he faw the wind boisterous he was afraid; and, beginning to fink, he cried, faying, Lord, fave me.

31 Andimmediately Jefus fuietched forth his hand, and caught him, and faid unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didft thou doubt?

32 And when they were come into the thip the wind ceafed.

33 Then they that were in the fhip came and worshipped him, faying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

34 And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennefaret.

35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they fent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased.

Of men's traditions.

36 And befought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

THEN came to Jefus fcribes
and Pharifees, which were of
Jerufalem, faying,

2 Why do thy difciples tranfgrefs the tradition of the elders? for they wafh not their hands when they eat bread.

But he antwered, and said unto them, Why do ye alfo tranfgrefs the commandment of God by your tradition?

4 For God commanded, faying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curfeth father or mother, let him die the death.

What defileth man.

13 But he answered, and faid, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted fhall be rooted up.

14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the

blind lead the blind, both fhall fall

into the ditch.

15 Then anfwered Peter, and faid unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 And Jefus faid, Are ye allo yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is caft out into the draught:

18 But thofe things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man?

26 But he anfwered, and faid, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to call it to dogs.

294 And Jefus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the fea of Galilee, and went up into a mountain, and fat down there.

39 And he fent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coafts of Magdala.

CHAP. XVI.

The Pharifees require a fign.

Saddecees, came, and, tempting, defired him that he would fhew them a fign from heaven. » 30 And great multitudes came 2 He aufwered, and faid unto unto him, having with them thofe them, When itis evening, ye fay, that werelame, blind, dumb,maim- It will be fair weather; for the sky ed, and many others, and caft them is red: down at Jefus' feet, and he healed them;

31 Infomuch that the multitude wondered, when they faw the dumb to fpeak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to fee: and they glorified the God of Ifrael.

32 Then Jefus called his difciples unto him, and faid, I have compaffion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not fend them away fafting, left they faint in the way.

33 And his difciples fay unto him, Whence fhould we have fo much bread in the wilderness as to fill fo great a multitude?

14 And Jefus faith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they faid, Seven, and a few little fishes.

35 And he commanded the multitude to fit down on the ground. 36 And he took the feven loaves and the fhes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his difciples, and the difciples to the multitude.

37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.

3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day; for the sky is red and lowring. Oye hypocrites! ye can difcern. the face of the fky; but can ye not difcern the figns of the times?

8 Which when Jefus perceived, he faid unto them, O ye of little faith, why reafon ye among yourfelves, becaufe ye have brought no bread!

9 Do ye not yet underftand, nei. ther remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

10 Neither the feven loaves of the four thoufand, and how many baskets ye took up?

11 How is it that ye do not underftand that I fpake it not to you concerning

23 But he turned, and faid unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offence unto me: for thou favoureft not the things that be of God, but thofe that be of

men.

24 Then faid Jefus unto his difciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his crofs, and follow me. 25 For whofoever will fave his life, hall lofeit; and whofoeverwilllofe his life for my fake, hall find it.

26 For what is a man profited, if he fhall gain the whole world, and lofe his own foul? or, what fhall a man give in exchange for his foul!

27 For the Son of man fall come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

28 Verily I fay unto you, There be fome ftanding here which fhall not tafte of death till they fee the Son of man coming in his kingdom. CHA P. XVII.

The transfiguration of Chrift.
ND after fix days Jefus taketh
