African Republic. The reported sales for the year 1892 were 442 Bibles, 1,582 Testaments, and 690 Portions. NORTH AMERICAN INDIANS. There were issued from the Bible House 500 volumes in seven of the languages of the aborigines, for circulation principally among the Cherokees, Dakotas, Choctaws, and Ojibwas. CONCLUSION. In concluding their Report the Managers would express their gratitude to God that they have been permitted, for another year, to participate in a work which they regard with ever-increasing interest as they mark the saving power of the Holy Scriptures. The Apostle's word concerning the teachings of the Old Testament may be repeated with even greater emphasis concerning the lessons of the completed Book: "They are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness;" and again: “Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope." Tidings are constantly received that this hope is now, as ever, awakened in the breasts of the rich and the poor, the rude and the cultured, in city and hamlet, on continent and island, in regions ice-bound and tropical, the wide world over. The Scriptures are God's message of mercy to all. In the distribution of this inspired volume the very successes of the past have multiplied the demands of the present. The American Bible Society has been enabled during the seventy-seven years of its history to circulate the Scriptures in ninety-five languages and dialects; and the lands which have received the largest number of volumes are the very lands which make the most earnest appeals for a larger distribution in the near future. Gratefully recognizing the sympathy and support which they have received in the past, the Managers most cordially invite all the friends of the Society to unite with them in still more earnest and liberal efforts to meet the imperative demands of the opening year.
