* Or, I will give unto my two witnesses, that they may prophesy.

a The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground, and keep silence: they have cast up dust upon their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth: the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground, Lam. ii. 10.

VER. 4.

Οὗτοί εἰσιν αἱ δύο ἑλαῖαι, καὶ δύο λυχ νίαι αἱ ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ τῆς γῆς ἑστῶσαι·

a These are the two olive-trees, band the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

a And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring-reed; and he stood in the gate. And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel. And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring-reed of six cubits long, by the cubit and an handbreadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed, Ezek. xl. 3-5. I a The LORD called thy name, A lifted up mine eyes again, and looked, green olive-tree, fair, and of goodly and behold a man with a measuring-fruit; with the noise of a great tuline in his hand. Then said I, Whither mult he hath kindled fire upon it, and goest thou? And he said unto me, To the branches of it are broken, Jer. xi. measure Jerusalem, to see what is 16. And said unto me, What seest the breadth thereof, and what is the thou? And I said, I have looked, and length thereof, Zech. ii. 1, 2. behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps which are upon the top thereof; And two olive-trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof, Zech. iv. 2, 3. Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive-trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olivebranches, which, through the two golden pipes, empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth, 11-14.

VER. 2.

But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not ; a for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

* Gr. cast out.

a O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps, Psal. lxxix. 1. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled, Luke xxi. 24.

And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them,

and kill them.

a And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast, chap. xiii. 1– 3. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to ⚫ overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues,

and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his into a lake of fire burning with brimimage. These both were cast alive

stone, xix. 19, 20. Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were which of iron, and his nails of brass ; devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet; And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that born that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom, Dan. vii. 1999. And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time,

that great city, because, she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, chap. xiv. 8. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell and the great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the ferceness of his wrath, xvi. 19. And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF

THE EARTH, xvii. 5. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird, xviii. 2. Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city! Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come, 10. And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all, 21.

And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GoD, Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. So I prophesied, as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost; we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel: And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, And shall put my Spirit in you, and ye shall live ; and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I
