taking, fubfcribing, or making the faid Oath, or the said recited part of the faid Declaration; the laft forementioned Statutes, or any other Law or Statute to the contrary in any wife notwithstanding.

12. And be it enacted, That the Oaths that are intended and required to be taken by this Act, are the Oaths in these express words hereafter following:

I A. B. do fincerely promife and fwear, That I will be faithful and bear true Allegiance to their Majefties King William and Queen Mary.

So help me God, &c.

I A. B. do fwear, That I do from my heart abbor, deteft, and abjure, as impious and beretical, that damnable doctrine and pofition, That Princes excommunicated or deprived by the Pope, or any authority of the See of Rome, may be depofed or murdered by their subjects, or any other whatfoever.

And I do declare, That no foreign Prince, Perfon, Prelate, State, or Potentate, bath, or ought to have, any jurifdiction, power, fuperiority, preeminence, or authority, ecclefiaftical or Spiritual, within this realm.

So help me God, &c.

13. And be it further enacted by the authority afore faid, That the names of all and fingular fuch perfons and officers aforefaid, that do or fhall in the Court of Chancery, King's Bench, or Quarter Seffions, take the Oaths by this Act required, or appointed to be taken, fhall be in the faid respective Courts of Chancery and King's Bench, and the Quarter Seffions, enrolled with the day and time of their taking the fame, in rolls made and kept only for that intent and purpose, and for no other. The which rolls, as for the Court of Chancery, fhall be publicly hung up in the Office of the Petty Bag: and the rolls for the King's Bench, in the Crown Office of the faid Court, and in fome public place in every Quarter Seffions, and there remain during the whole term, every term, and during the whole time of the faid Seffions, in every Quarter Seffions, for every one to refort to, and look upon, without fee or reward. And none of the perfon or perfons aforefaid fhall give or pay as any fee or reward to any officer or officers belonging to any of the Courts, as aforefaid, above

Extract of an Act for the further Security of bis Majefly's Perfon and Government, and the Succeffion of the Crown in the Heirs of the late Princefs Sophia, being Proteftants; and for extinguishing the Hopes of the pretended Prince of Wales, and his open and secret Abettors.

IT

T is enacted, That-all ecclefiaftical perfons, Heads, or Governors, of what denomination foever, and all other members of colleges and halls in any Univerfity, that are or fhall be of the foundation, or that do or fhall enjoy any exhibition, being of the age of eighteen years; and all perfons teaching or reading to pupils in any Univerfity, or elfewhere, and all Schoolmafters and Uthers, and all Preachers and Teachers of feparate congregations, all Conftables, and every person that fhall act as a Serjeant at Law, Counsellor at Law, Barrifter, Advocate, Attorney, Solicitor, Writer in Scotland, Proctor, Clerk, or Notary, by practising in any manner as fuch in any Court whatfoever, who shall inhabit, refide, or be within the cities of London or Weftminster, or within thirty miles distant from the fame, on the first day of Michaelmas term next, at any time during the faid term, fhall perfonally appear before the end of the faid term in his Majefty's Court of Chancery, King's Bench, Common Pleas, or Exchequer, and there in public and open Court, between the hours of nine of the clock and twelve in the forenoon, take the Oaths herein after mentioned; that is to fay,

B. do truly and fincerely acknowledge, profefs, teftify, and declare, in my confcience, before God and the world, That our Sovereign Lord King George is lawful and rightful King of this realm, and all other his Majefty's dominions and countries thereunto belonging. And I do folemnly and fincerely declare, That I do believe in my confcience, that the perfon pretended to be Prince of Wales, during the life of the late King James, and fince his deceafe pretending to be, and taking upon himself the ftile and title of King of England, by the name of James the Third, or of Scotland by the name of James the Eighth, or the file and title of King of Great Britain, bath not any right or title whatsoever to the Crown of this realm, or any other the dominions thereto belonging: and I do renounce, refufe, and abjure, any allegiance or obedience to him. And I do fwear, that I will bear faith and true allegiance to his Majesty King George, and him will defend, to the utmost of my power, against all traiterous confpiracies and attempts whatsoever, which fhall be made against his perfon, crown, or dignity. And I will do my utmost endeavour to difclofe and make known to his Majefly, and bis fucceffors, all treafons and traiterous confpiracies which I fhall know to be against him, or any of them. And I do faithfully promife, to the utmost of my power, to fupport, maintain, and defend, the fucceffion of the Crown against him the faid James, and all other perfons whatsoever; which fucceffion, by an Act, intituled, Án Act for the further Limitation of the Crown, and better fecuring the Rights and Liberties of the Subject, is and ftands limited to the Princess Sophia, Electores and Dutchefs Dowager of Hanover, and the heirs of her body, being Proteftants. And all these things I do plainly and fincerely acknowledge and fwear, according to thefe express words by me fpoken, and according to the plain and common fenfe and understanding of the fame words, without any equivocation, mental evafion, or fecret refervation whatsoever. And I do make this recognition, acknowledgment, abjuration, renunciation, and promife, beartily, willingly, and truly, upon the true faith of a Chriftian.

So help me God.

Unto

Unto which Oaths fo taken, every such person so taking the fame fhall fubfcribe his name, or, if he cannot write, fhall make his mark; and during the time of taking the said Oaths, all pleas and proceedings in the faid respective Courts fhall ceafe; and all and every the faid respective perfons and officers, not having taken the faid Oaths, and fubfcribed the fame, as aforefaid, fhall, on or before the twenty-third day of January next, at the General or Quarter Seffions for that county, riding, liberty, city, borough, town-corporate, or place, where he or they fhall be, inhabit, or refide on the firft day of December next, take the faid Oaths in open Court, between the faid hours of nine and twelve of the clock in the forenoon, and fubfcribe his name, or, if he cannot write, make his mark under the fame.

2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That all and every perfon and perfons that shall be admitted, entered, placed, or taken, into any office or offices, civil or military, or fhall receive any pay, falary, fee, or wages, by reason of any patent or grant from his Majefty, or fhall have command or place of truft from or under his Majefty, or by his authority, or by authority derived from him, within that part of Great Britain called England, or in his Majefty's navy, or in the feveral iflands of Jersey and Guernsey, or that fhall be admitted into any fervice or employment in his Majefty's household or family, or of his Royal Highnefs George Prince of Wales, or of her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, or their iffue, and all ecclefiaftical perfons, Heads, or Governors, of what denomination foever, and all other members of colleges and halls in any Univerfity, that are or fhall be of the foundation, or that do or fhall enjoy any exhibition, being of, or as foon as they fhall attain, the age of eighteen years, and all perfons teaching or reading to pupils in any Univerfity, or elfewhere, and all Schoolmafters and Ufhers, and all Preachers and Teachers of feparate congregations, high or chief Conftables, and every perfon who fhall act as Serjeant at Law, Counsellor at Law, Barrister, Advocate, Attorney, Solicitor, Proctor, Clerk, or Notary, by practifing in any manner as fuch in any Court or Courts whatsoever, within that part of Great Britain called England, who fhall, at any time after the tenth day of Auguft one thousand feven hundred and fifteen, be admitted into, or enter upon any of the before-mentioned preferments, benefices, offices, or places, or fhall come into any fuch capacity, or fhall take upon

him or them any fuch practice, employment, or bufinefs, as aforefaid, fhall, within three months after he or they fhall be admitted into, or enter upon any fuch preferment, benefice, office, or place, or come into fuch capacity, or take upon him or them fuch practice, employment, or bufineis, as aforefaid, take and fubfcribe the fame Oaths in one of the faid Courts at Westminster, or at the General Quarter Seffions of the county, city, or place, where he or they fhall refide.

7. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, That all and every the perfon and perfons aforefaid, that do or fhall neglect or refufe to take the faid Oaths, and fubfcribe thereto, as aforefaid, in the faid Courts and places, and at the refpective times aforefaid, fhall be ipfo facto adjudged incapable, and disabled in law, to all intents and purposes whatsoever, to have, occupy, or enjoy, the faid office or offices, employment or employments, or any part of them, or any matter or thing aforefaid, or any profit or advantage appertaining to them, or any of them: and every fuch office or place, employment or employments, fhall be void, and is hereby adjudged void.

8. And be it further enacted, That all and every fuch perfon and perfons who fhall neglect and refuse to take the faid Oaths, within the times, and at the places aforefaid, and yet after fuch neglect or refufal fhall, by himself or themselves, his or their deputy or trustee, execute any of the faid offices or employments after the faid time is expired, wherein he or they ought to have taken the faid Oaths according to the true intent and meaning of this Act, and being thereof lawfully convicted in or upon any information, prefentment, or indictment, in any of the King's Courts at Weftminster, or at the Affizes, upon profecution before the Court of Jufticiary, or Circuits in Scotland, every fuch perfon or perfons fhall be difabled from thenceforth to fue or ufe any action, bill, plaint, or information, in any Court of Law, or to prosecute any fuit in any Court of Equity, or to be Guardian of any child, or Executor or Adminiftrator of any perfon, or capable of any legacy, or deed of gift, or to be in any office within this realm of Great Britain, or to vote at any election for members to ferve in Parliament, and fhall forfeit the fum of five hundred pounds, to be recovered by him or them that shall fue for the fame, to be profecuted by any action of debt, fuit, bill, plaint, or information, in any of his Majefty's Courts at Weftminster, wherein no effoin, protection, or wager of law, fhall lie, or any more
