And "whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of bea that go on all four those are unclean unto you.” Lev. 11-27.

These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things,t| creep upon the earth, the 'weasel,' and the 'mouse' and the 'tortoi after his kind,-and the 'ferret,' and the 'chameleon,' and the ‘lizal and the 'snail,' and the 'mole.' Lev. 11-29, 30.-If any beast of whi ye may eat, die of itself, he that even toucheth the carcase there shall be unclean. Lev. 11-39.

Every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall an abomination, it shall not be eaten. Lev. 11-41.-Whatsoever goe upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever ha more feet among all creeping things that creep on the earth, them | shall not eat, for they are an abomination. Lev. 11-42.-For I am Lord your God, ye shall therefore sanctify yourseves, and ye shall | holy, for I am holy. Lev. 11-44.-" Flesh with the life thereof, which the blood thereof shall ye not eat. Gen. 9-4.

Behold I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upo the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fru of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat. Gen. 1-29.—Am to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I hav given every green herb for meat, and it was so, (and it will be so sinc animals maintain their state.) Gen. 1-30.

CHAPTER XLVII.

Surfeits Destroy more than the Sword or Famine. Theo. Hear thou, my son and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way Pro, 23-19-Wine is mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever deceived thereby is not wise. Pro 20-1.-For the drunkard, and th glutton shall come to poverty, and drowsiness shall clothe a man wit rags. Pro. 23-21.-Then be not among winebibbers, and among riotou eaters of flesh. Pro. 23-20-And be not drunk with wine, wherein excess, but be filled with the spirit. Eph. 5-18,-For they have erre

through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way. Isa. 28–7. -For whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. Hos. 4-11.

Ye shall drink no wine, neithe ye, nor your sons for ever. Jer. 35-6.—And look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. Pro 23-31.—For at last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like adder. Pro. 23-32.-Thine eyes shall behold strange women and thine heart shall utter perverse things Pro 23-33-Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast- Pro 23–34. ―They have stricken me, shalt thou say and I was not sick,-They have beaten me, and I felt it not, When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again. Pro. 23-35.

It is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes strong drink. Pro. 31-4-Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Pro. 31-5.-But give strong drink un to him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Pro. 31-6-Let him drink, and forget his poverty and remember his misery no more. Pro. 31–7.

Who hath woe? and who hath sorrow? who hath contention? and who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? and who hath redness of eyes. Pro. 23-29.-They that tarry long at the wine, they that go to seek mixed win e. Pro. 23-30.-Then woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle with strong drink. Isa. 5-22.—Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him. Isa. 5-23.-Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that putteth thy bottle to him, and maketh him drunken also. Hab. 2-15.

CHAPTER XLVIII.

What do God's Laws Avail Without Morals.

Behold I set before you the way of life and the way of death. Jer. 21-8-Hear and I will speak, I will testify against thee, I am God, even thy God. Ps. 50.7.-I am the Lord your God, walk in my

statutes, and keep my judgments and do them. Ezek, 20-19.-And if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,-That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain, and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine and thine oil. Deut. 11-13, 14.—And thou shalt do that which is right and good, in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with thee. Deut. 6-18.-Be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the laws, which Moses my servant commanded thee, turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. Josh. 1-7.-Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do. Deut. 29-9. And ye shall lay up my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. Deut. 11-18.--And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down and when thou risest up. Deut. 11-19.

My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments. Pro. 3-1.--I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go, and I will guide thee with mine eye. Ps. 32-8.-For length of days, and long life, and peace shall they add to thee. Pro. 3-2.--And be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding, whose mouth must be held in with bit and bride, lest they come near unto thee. Ps. 32-9.-Many sorrows shall be to the wicked, but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about. Ps. 32-10.

That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him, for he is thy life and length of thy days. Deut. 30-20.-And this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous. I John 5-3.-And the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul, the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. Ps. 19-7.-The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart, the

ommandments of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. Ps. 19-8.he fear of the Lord is clean enduring for ever, the judgments of he Lord are true, and righteous altogether. Ps. 19-9.

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid, yea, ve establish the law. Rom 3-31--And whosoever shall keep the whole aw, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. Jas, 2-10.—I say, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass rom the law, till all be fulfilled. Math. 5-18.-Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach man so, ne shall be called the "least" in the kingdom of heaven, Math. 5-19.— Then let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Gal. 6-6.

Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes. Deut. 8-11.-Lest when thou hast eaten, and art Full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein Deut. 8-12.-And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy ilver and thy gold is multiplied. Then thy heart be lifted up, and hat thou forget the Lord thy God. Deut. 8-13, 14.-And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me, this wealth. Deut. 8-17.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound, they shall walk. O Lord, in the light of thy countenance. Ps. 89-15.

Whether Thou Slay or Save Me, at Thy Door My Head 1 Lay, To Creature Will Belongs Not, Thy Commandments I Obey. Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my od, thy spirit is good, lead me to the land of uprightmess. Ps. 143-10.--Shew me thy ways, O Lord, teach me thy paths. Ps. 25-4.-Lead me in thy truth and teach me, for thou art he Lord of my salvation, on thee do I wait all the day. Ps. 25-5.Blessed art thou, O Lord teach me thy statutes. Ps. 119-12.—With y lips I have declared all the judgments of thy mouth. (as Moses cf. sa. 33-22). Ps. 119-13.--I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, s much as in all riches. Ps. 119-14.--I will meditate in thy precepts,

and have respect unto thy ways. Ps. 119-15.-I will delight myse in thy statutes, I will not forget thy word. Ps. 119.16.-Make me t understand the way of thy precepts, so shall I talk of thy wondrou works. 119-27.--I have chosen the way of truth, thy judgment have I laid before me. Ps. 119-30.--I will run the way of thy command ments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart. Ps. 119-32.--Teach me O Lord, the way of thy statutes and I shall keep it unto the end Ps. 119-33.-Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law, yea 1 shall" observe "it with my whole heart. 119-34.--Make me to g in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight. Ps 119-35.-Behold, I have longed after thy precepts. Ps. 119-40.And I will walk at liberty for I seek thy precepts. Ps. 119-45.-Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. Ps. 119-54. —And I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. Ps. 119-63.-And through thy precepts. I get understanding, therefore I hate every false way. Ps 119-01-Great peace have they that love thy law, and nothing shall offend them.

CHAPTER XLIX.

If a God did not Exist, it would Necessary to Invent One, Hear, O my people, I will testify unto thee if thou wilt hearken unto me. Ps. 81-8-There shall no strange god be in thee, neither shalt thou worship any strange god. Ps 8-9.—That thou shalt have none other gods before me. Deut. 5-7-Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing. Deut. 5-8.-Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them ("even the cross')* nor serve them, for I am the Lord your God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third or the fourth generation ("birth in the same family") of them that hate me. Deut. 5-9.-Ye shall make you no idols, nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, ( even a stone cross*) to bow down unto it, for I am the Lord your God. Lev. 26-1-Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and * Crosses are ladders that lead their hearts to heaven (cf. Luke 9-23.)
