Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward Luke 2-14.--And blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God. Math. 5-9.-Let us follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. Rom. 14-19.

If ye have bitter envying, and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. Jas. 3-14.-This wisdom descende th not from above, but is earthly, sensualdevilish. Jas. 3-15--For strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. Jas. 3-16.-But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated full of mercy, and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. Jas. 3-17.--And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. Jas. 3–18.--Then seek the peace of the city, and the world, and pray unto the Lord for it, for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. Jer. 29-7.--Salt is good, but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Mark 9-50.--Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Heb. 12-14.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace. Ps, 37-37.-Also when a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Pro. 16-7-If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Rom 12-18.

Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary (and do not make thy mouth my sanctuary), for I am the Lord. Lev. 26–2.—My house is the house of prayer (thy mouth I gave thee for prayer and not to spit on the fire), but ye have made it a den of thieves, (for diseases). Luke 19-46.-Depart from this evil, and do good, seek peace, and pursue it. Ps. 34-14.-Then I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. Lev. 26-6.--For there is

no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. Isa. 48-22.--Destruction and misery are in their ways, and the way of peace have they not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Rom. 3-16, 18.-They have made them crooked paths, whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Isa. 59-8.--Then if the unbelieving depart let him depart. But God hath called us to peace. I Cor. 7-15.

Lord, I have hope for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. Ps. 119-166.-Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them. Ps. 119-165.-And he shall enter into peace, they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. Isa. 57-2.

CHAPTER XXIX.

Marry Your Daughters Betimes, Lest They Marry Themselves. Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Build ye houses, and dwell in them. Jer. 29-4, 5.-Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons, and give daughters to husbands of your own caste. Jer. 29-6-For marriage is honourable. in all, and the bed undefiled, but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. Heb. 13-14.

Have ye not read, that he which made them, at the beginning made them male and female. Math. 19-4.-What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. Math. 19-6-For a prudent wife is from the Lord, But house and riches are the inheritance of fathers Pro. 19-14.-Who so therefore findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. Pro. 18-22.

It is good for a man not to touch a woman. I Cor. 7-1.-To avoid fornication let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. I Cor. 7-2.-Let younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproach fully. I Tim. 5-14.-Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence, and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 1 Cor. 7-3.— The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. I Cor. 7-4.-Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and come together again, that satan

tempt you not for your incontinency. I Cor. 7-5.--Let not the wife depart from her husband, I Cor. 7-10.--But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband, and let, not the husband put away his wife. I Cor. 7-11. That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication causeth her too commit adultery and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth. adultery. Let husbands dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heir together of the grace of life, that your prayers be not hindered. I Pet 3-7.-Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Col. 3-18-Husbands, love your wives, aud be not bittes against them. Col. 3-19. Likewise be in subjection to your own husbands that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives, while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. I Pet. 3-1.2.-Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plating the hair, and of wearing of gold, or putting on of apparel, I Pet 3-3-But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. I Pet. 3-4. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves being in subjection unto their own husbands. I Pet, 3-5,

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of thy life, for that is thy portion in this life. Ecc. 9-9-Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thin own well. Pro. 5-15. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the the streets. Pro. 5-16.-Let them be only thine own and not strangers with thee, Pro. 5-17.-Let thy fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Pro. 5-18-Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe, let her breasts satisfy thee at all times, and be thou rayished always with her love. Pro. 5-19.

Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife. I Cor. 7.27.-But if thou marrv. thou hast not sinned and if

sinned. I Cor. 7-28.-The wife is bound by the law as long as her hus band liveth. But if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord. I Cor. 7-39.-But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment, and I think also that I have the Spirit of God. I Cor. 7-40,

Wives, submit yourself unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Eph. 5-22.-Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. Eph. 5-25.-So ought men to love wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. Eph. 5-28.-And let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself, and the wife see that she reverence her husband. Eph. 5-33. -For a virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in her bones. Pro. 12-4,-And every wise woman buildeth her house, but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. Pro. 14-1.

The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage,-But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection for the dead neither marry, nor are given in marriage. Neither can they die any more, for they are equal unto angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Luke 20-34 to 36.

Lemuel Praise of Good Wife.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Pro. 31-10.-The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so 31-11.-She that he shall have need of spoil. Pro. no seeketh wool, and flax and worketh willingly with her hands. Pro. 31-12. -She is like the merchant's ships, she bringeth her food from afar. Pro. 31-14.-She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. Pro. 31-15.-She layeth

her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. Pro. 31-19. -She stretcheth out her hand to the poor, yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. Pro. 31-20-Her husband is known in the gate, when he sit teth among the elders of the land. Pro. 31-23.She maketh fine linen, and selleth it, and deliv ereth girdles unto the

merchant. Pro. 31-24.-Strength and honour are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come. Pro. 31-25,-She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Pro. 31-26— She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Pro. 31-27.

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Pro. 31-30.-Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates. Pro, 31-31.

CHAPTER XXX.

Holmes.

Alone she Wanders Where with him she Trod. | No Arm to Stay her-but she Leans on God. Honour widows that are widows indeed. I Tim. 5-3.-But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents, for that is good and acceptable before God. I Tim. 5-4.-Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. I Tin. 5-5-But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. I Tim. 5-6.-And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. I Tim. 5-7.-But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. I Tim. 5-8.-Let not a widow be taken in to the number under three score years old having been the wife of one man. I Tim. 5-9.-Well reported of for good works, if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. I Tim. 5-10.-But the younger widows refuse, for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ they will marry, Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. I Tim. 5-11 12.—And with all they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house and not only idle, but tattlers also and busy bodies, speaking things which they ought not. I Tim. 5-13.—I will therefore that the younger widow marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to
