CHAPTER XXXI.

Fulfilment of Duty to God is Religion, to Parents Piety. Cr. Come, ye children, hearken unto me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Ps. 34-11.-What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Ps. 34-12.-Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile Ps. 34-13-Depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it. Ps. 34-14-Bless them which persecute you, bless and curse not. CHAPTER XXXII.

Good Master, what shall we do, that we might work the works of God? John 6-28.-Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for

that meat which endureth unto everlasting life. John 6-27-Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt. Math. 6-19.—But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also, Math. 6-20,21.-Be content with such things as ye have, for he hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." Heb. 13-5.-So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Heb. 13-6.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. I Tim, 6-6.-For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. I Tim. 6-7.-And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content. I Tim 6-8.-But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. I Tim. 6-9,-For the love of money is the root of all evil, which while coveted after, they have erred from the faith

pierced themselves through with many sorrows, I Tim. 6-10.-Take heed therefore and beware of covetousness, for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12.15-For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Math. 16-26.-For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? Ecc. 2-22.-For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief, yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. Ecc. 2-23.-For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy. But to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. Ecc. 2-26.

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew, surely they are disquieted in vain, he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. Ps. 39-6.-Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay, He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on and the innocent shall divide the silver Job 27-16, 17.

we drink, or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Math. 6-31.-(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek.) for your heavenly father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. Math. 6-32.-But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Math. 6-33.-Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Math. 6-34.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high. minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. I Tim. 6-17.-That they do good that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate. Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. I Tim. 6-18-19.

There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Pro. 16.25.-He that laboureth, laboureth for himself, for his mouth craveth it of him. Pro. 16-26.-Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith. Pro. 15-16.-Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues without right. Pro. 16-8.-Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. Ecc. 4-6.

CHAPTER XXXIII.

What is Pomp, Rule. and Reign. but Earth and Dust.

And, Live we how we can, Yet Die we Must, -Shak.

A good name is rather to be chosen, than great riches, and loving favour, rather than silver and gold. Pro. 22-1.-So be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. Pro. 27-23. For riches are not for ever, and doth the crown endure to every generation? Pro. 27-24.-The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are for the price of the field. Pro. 27-28. And thou

shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens. Pro. 27-27,

Soul! soul! thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. Luke 12-19.—And this will I do I will pull down my barns, and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. Luke 12-18.-But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee, then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luke 12-20.And what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul? Job 27-8.-And what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8-36.-Although he buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. Job 27-18.-Yet, the rich man shall lie down but he shall not be gathered, (among saints), he openeth his eyes, and he is not. Job 27-19.-God shall destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Ps. 52-5.-The righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him. Ps. 52-6.- Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. Ps. 52-7.

Moreover the profit of the earth is for all, the king himself is served by the field. Ecc. 5-9. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loveth abundance with increase. Ecc. 5-10.-Riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt, but those riches perish by evil travail, and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. Ecc. 5-14. As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. Ecc. 5-15.-In all points as he came, so shall he go, and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? Ecc. 5-16.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivereth from death. Pro. 11-4.-And he that trusteth in his riches shall fall but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. Pro. 11-28.--Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished, but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Pro. 13-11.—And he that by usury and unjust gain increaseth
