his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor. Pro. 26-8.-Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich. Pro. 28-6.

I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself in a green ree, in its native soil. Ps. 37-35.-The tents of the robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure into whose hand God bringeth abundantly. Job 12-6.-Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, wax mighty in power, their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes. Job 21-7, 8.--Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. Job 21-9.--They are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued like other men. Ps. 73-5.--They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. Fs. 73-9--They send forth their little ones like a flock and their children dance. Job 21-11.-They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. Job 21-12.--Therefore they say unto God, depart from us, for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. Job 21-14.--And they say, how doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most high? Ps. 73-11.--And what is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what profit should we have? if we pray unto him. Job 21-15.-Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world, they increase in riches. Ps. 73-12.

Lo, their good is not in their hand, the counsel of the wicked is far from me. Job 21-16.-Shall any teach God knowledge seeing he judgeth those that are high? Job 21-22.--One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. Job 21-23.--And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure. Job 21-25.-Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongly imagine against me, Job 21-27.—Then have ye not asked that go by the way, and do ye not know their tokens? (being born blind, blame, or humpbacked). Job 21-29.-That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? (by unnatural death after such tokens), they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. Job 21-30.-Then who shall declare his way to his face ? and who shall repay him what he hath done? Job 21.31.-Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall ever remain

in the tomb, (but shall not return to his mother's belly after unnatural death.) Job 21-32.-The clods of the valley (the desert) shall be sweet unto him, and every man (died of unnatural death) shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him. Job 21-33.

Then boast not thyself of to-morrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Pro. 27-1.--And trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery, if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. Ps. 62-10.-Labour not to be rich, cease from thine own wisdom. Pro. 23-4.--Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings and fly away. Pro. 23-5.-As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool. Jer. 17-11.-And he that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. Pro. 28-22.-And he that opprosseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want. Pro. 22.16.

The Parable by Jesus.

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. Luke 16-19.--And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores. Luke 16-20.—And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Luke 16-21.--And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. Luke 16-22.--And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Luke 16-23.--And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. Luke 16-24,—But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life time, receivedst good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things, but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Luke 16-25. -And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, 30 that they which would pass from hence to you cannot, neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Luke 16-26.-Then he

said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou would est send him to my father's house. Luke 16-27.-For I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Luke 16-28-Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and Prophets' teachings, let them hear them for Supreme Bliss. Luke 16-29.

CHAPTER XXXIV.

Life is a Bubble and a Scepticism and a Sleep within a Sleep,

Soul! soul! Thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. Luke 12-19.-And this will I do, I will pull down my barns, and build greater. Luke 12-18.-And I have made me great works, I builded me houses, I planted me vineyards. Ecc. 2-4.-But God said unto him. Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee, then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? Luke 12-20-Then what is his hope, when God taketh away his soul? Job 27-8.

Go to now, ye that say, to-day, or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell and get gain. Jas. 4-13.-Where as ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. Jas. 4-14.-Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton, ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Jas. 5-5.

Lord, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days what it is, that I may know how frail I am. Ps. 3-4.-Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreath, and mine age is as nothing before thee. Ps. 39-5.-Man is like to vanity, his days are as a shadow that passeth away. Ps. 144-4.

Behold, he put no trust in his servants, and his angels he charged with folly. Job 4-18.-How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? Job 4-19.--They are destroyed from morning to evening, they perish for ever without any regarding it. Job 4-20.--Doth not the

excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom. Job 4-21.

Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. Job 14-1.--He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down, he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not. Job 14-2.--As for man, his days are as grass, as a flower of the field, so he nourisheth. Ps. 103-15--For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone, and the place thereof shal! know it no more. Ps. 103.16.-In the morning it flourisheth, and up, in the evening it is cut down, and withereth Ps. 90-6--For all our days are passed away in thy wrath, we spend our years as a tale that is told. Ps. 90-9 -The days of our years are three score years, and ten, and if by reason of strength they be four score years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow, for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Ps. 90-10-So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom. Ps. 90-12.-For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst ? Job 21-21.-For all shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worm shall cover them. Job 21-26.

Behold, all souls are mine, as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine.--The soul that sinneth (of licentiousness), it shall die, (of unnatural death after his full time and live as a ghost.) Ezek. 18-4.--But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right. And hath not lifted up his eyes to the idols. Neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife.--Neither hath come near to a woman in her sepa ration, And hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge.--Hath spoiled none by violence,--Hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,—— He that hath not given forth upon usury,-Neither hath taken any increase, That hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity,-Hath

executed true judgment between man and man,--Hath walked in my statutes,--And hath kept my judgments, to deal truly, he is just, he shall surely live (third or fourth generation) saith the Lord God. Ezek. 18-5 to 9.

The meek shall inherit the land (the earth, next birth.) And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. Ps. 37-11.-For evildoers shall be cut off, (by unnatural death). But those that wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the land. Ps. 37-9.-What man is he that feareth the Lord? Him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose. Ps. 25-12.--His soul shall dwell at ease, and his seed shall inherit the land. Ps. 25-13.-He entereth into peacc, they rest in their beds, each one that walketh in his uprightness. Isa. 57-2.-For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God beside thee, which worketh for him, that waiteth for him. Isa. 64-4.

Paul-As there is laid up for me, the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me, and also to all men, that have loved his appearing. 2 Tim. 4-8.-For bodily exercise profiteth little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of life which now is, and of that which is to com e. I Tim 1-8.-Then it is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Lam. 3-27.

Then blessed are they that are perfect in the way, who walk in the Law of the Lord. Ps. 119-1.-And blessed are they that keep his testimonies. That seek him with the whole heart. Ps. 119-2.— And blessed are they that keep judgment. And he that doeth righteousness at all times. Ps. 106-3.

David Describeth the Citizen of the Heaven.

Lord, who shall sojourn in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? Ps. 15-1.-And who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord ? and who shall stand in his holy place? Ps. 24-3.-He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart. Who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity And hath not sworn deceitfully. Ps. 24-4.-He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness. And speaketh truth in his heart.
