Let us pray.

Turn thy face away from our sins;
And put out all our misdeeds.
Make me a clean heart, O God;
And renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence;
And take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
O Lord, hear our prayer;

And let our crying come unto thee.

Then the Collect for the Day, after which the
Collects following.

ALMIGHTY God, we beseech thee graciously

to behold this thy family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross, who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

For Protection.

LORD, we beseech thee mercifully to hear us; and grant that we, to whom thou hast given an hearty desire to pray, may by thy mighty aid be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If there are any Prayers or Thanksgivings Proper for the Day, they may be inserted here, or substituted for one or more of those that follow. Prayers for children, &c. are to be found in the Second Part.

For Pastors and People.

ALMIGHTY God who into the place of the traitor didst choose a faithful servant to be of

the number of the twelve Apostles; Grant that thy Church, being alway preserved from false Apostles, may be ordered and guided by faithful and true pastors; and upon them we beseech thee to send thy heavenly blessing; that they may be clothed with righteousness, and that thy Word spoken by their mouths may have such success, that it may never be spoken in vain. Grant also, that we may have grace to hear and receive what they shall deliver out of thy most holy Word, or agreeable to the same, as the means of our salvation; that in all our words and deeds we may seek thy glory, and the increase of thy kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For all Conditions of Men.

GOD, the Creator and Preserver of all man

kind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. More especially, we pray for the good estate of the Catholic Church: that it may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those, who are any ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate (especially); that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ his sake. Amen.

THE THANKSGIVINGS.

Let us praise the name of the Lord;
And offer unto our God thanksgivings.
Unto thee do we give thanks, O Lord;
Yea, unto thee, O God, do we give thanks.
It is good to give thanks unto the Lord;
And to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High.
To shew forth thy loving kindness in the
morning.

And thy faithfulness every night.

Praised be the Lord daily.

Who holdeth our souls in life.

And suffereth not our feet to slip.

Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; world without end. Amen.

Concluding Prayer.

ALMIGHTY God, the fountain of all wisdom,

who knowest our necessities before we ask, and our ignorance in asking; We beseech thee to have compassion upon our infirmities; and those things, which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask, vouchsafe to give us for the worthiness of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Benedictory Prayer.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy

Ghost, be with us all evermore.

Amen.

THE DAY OF OUR BLESSED SAVIOUR'S ASCENSION, AND THE INSTITUTION OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST.

Morning Prayer.

At the beginning of Morning Prayer, the Master of the Family may read the following Sentences, unless there are any proper for the Day.

HE ascended up on high, he led captivity cap

tive, he received gifts for men. Ps. lxviii. Jesus said, Go unto my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my father and your father, and to my God and your God. John xx.

Look how high the heaven is in comparison of the earth; so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. Ps. ciii.

Then the General Confession, to be said by the whole
Family, kneeling.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; we have
erred and strayed from thy ways like lost
sheep. We have followed too much the devices
and desires of our own hearts.
against thy holy laws.

We have offended We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most

merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

For Pardon.

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who

of thy great mercy hast promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto thee; Have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by all.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will

be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil : For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

us.

Then may be said,

O Lord, open thou our lips.

And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

O thou who hast ascended into heaven, and there makest intercession for us,

Glory be to thee, O Lord.
