The Seventy-sixth Annual Meeting of the American Bible Society was held at the Bible House on Thursday afternoon, May 12th, at half-past three o'clock. The Hon. E. L. Fancher, LL.D., President, occupied the chair, assisted by Gen. Oliver O. Howard, Theophilus A. Brouwer, Esq., Augustus Taber, Esq., and James H. Taft, Esq., Vice-Presidents. There were present as representatives from auxiliary Bible societies: Rev. Samuel Whaley, Long Island, N. Y.; Jonathan Dickinson, Esq., Dutchess County, N. Y.; and Rev. F. R. Brace, Camden County, N. J. The Rev. Hiram Bingham, from Honolulu, a missionary of the American Board, read a part of the sixtieth chapter of Isaiah, and led in prayer. The Recording Secretary, Mr. Caleb T. Rowe, reported the names of the nine Managers whose term of office expired at that time; whereupon a Committee, consisting of the Rev. Edward W. Gilman, D.D., Rev. Samuel Whaley, and Rev. F. R. Brace, was appointed to nominate suitable persons to fill their places. Secretary McLean read an Abstract of the Seventy-sixth Annual Report of the Managers for the year ending March 31st, 1892. On motion of the Rev. F. R. Brace, it was Resolved, That the Report, an Abstract of which has just been read, be printed and circulated under the direction of the Board of Managers. The Treasurer, Mr. William Foulke, presented the Statement of the receipts and payments for the year just closed, with the certificate of the Auditing Committee. On motion of Rev. A. J. Sullivan, of New York, it was Resolved, That the Financial Statement be accepted, and printed in the Annual Report. The Committee appointed to nominate Managers to fill the places of those whose term of office had just expired, reported, recommending the following persons, and the same were duly elected Managers for the four |
