THE PRAYER OF BLIND BARTIMÆUS.

MARK X. 46-51.

And as Jesus went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimæus, the son of Timæus, sat by the highway side begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

:

And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?

The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

THE LORD'S ANSWER.

MARK X. 52.

Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

And he stood over her, and rebuked the ever; and it left her: and immediately she arose, and ministered unto them.

A PRAYER OF ONE OF THE DISCIPLES THAT THE LORD WOULD TEACH THEM HOW TO PRAY.

LUKE xi. 1.

And it came to pass, that as Jesus was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto Jesus, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

LUKE xi. 2-13.

And the Lord said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

For a friend of mine in his journey is

before him?

come to me, and I have nothing to set And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an

egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

THE PRAYER OF THE TEN LEPERS.

Luke xvii. 12, 13.

And as Jesus entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off and they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, master, have mercy on us.

And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
