This Sentence is to read at the Offertory. Hatsoever ye would that men should do to you,

do ye even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets, St. Matt. vii. 12. After the Prayer for the Church Militant, this follow

ing Prayer is to be used. GOD, whose Name is excellent in all the earth,

and thy glory above the heavens; who on this day didit miraculoully preserve our Church and State from the fecret contrivance and hellish malice of Popish confpirators; and on this day also didit begin to give us a mighty deliverance from the open tyranny and oppreso Lion of the fame cruel and blood-thirsty enemies: We bless and adore thy glorious Majesty, as for the former, fo for this thy lace marvellous loving.kindness to our Church and Nation, in the preservation of our Religion and Liberties. And we humbly pray, that the devout fense of this thy repeated mercy may renew and increase in us a spirit of love and thankfulness to Thee its only Author ; a spirit of peaceable submission and obedience to our gracious. Sovereign Lord King GEORGE; and, a {pirit

of fervent zeal for our holy Religion, which thou hast so wonderfully rescued, and established, a blefling to us and our posterity. And this we beg for Jesus Christ his fake. .Amen,

Form of Prayer, with Fasting,

TO BE USED YEARLY UPON

THE THIRTIETH OF JANUARY, Being the Day of the Martyrdom of the Blessed King

Charles the First; to implore the Mercy of God, that neither the Guilt of that sacred and innocent Blood, nor those other fins, by which God was provoked to deliver op both us and our king into the hands of cruel and unreasonable men, may at any time hereafter be visited upon us or our 'pofterity.

If this Day shall happen to be a Sunday, this Form of Prayer shall be used, and the Faft kept the next day following. And upon the Lord's Day next before the day to be kept, at Morning Prayogiimmediately after the Nicene Creed, notice shall be given for the due Observation of the faid day.

The Service of the Day shall be the same with the usual Office for Holy-days in all things ; except where it is in this Office otherwise appointed.

THE ORDER FOR MORNING PRAYER.
He that ministereth shall begin with one or more of

these sentences. To

On a Sunday, &c.] It having never been the practice of the Catholic church, nor indeed of any part of it, except the Roman, and the Presbytetian church in Scotland, to allow of humiliation or fasting on Sundays; which are appointed for duties of a different nature ; it is ordered, that if this day shall happen to be Sunday, this form of prayer shall be used, and the fast kept the next day following. And upon the Lord's day next before the day to be kept, (i. e. on whatever day of the week it shall happen) at morning prayer, immediately after the Nícene Creed, notice shall be given for the due obfervation of the faid day. As to the Service of this day (like that appointed for the Fifth of November) it is to be the same with the usual office for Holy-days in all things, except where it is in this office

Correct us, O Lord, but with judgment; not in thine anger, left thou bring us to nothing. Jer. X. 24.

Enter not into judgment with thy servants, O Lord; for in thy light shall no man living be justified. Pfalm cxliii. 2.

. 1377 IGHTEOUS art thou, O Lord: and just are thy Thou art just, O Lord, in all that is brought upon us : for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly. Neh. ix. 33

Nevertheless our feet were almost gone: our treadings had well-nigh Dipt. Pfalm lxxiji. 2.

For why? we were grieved at the wicked : we did also see the ungodly in such prosperity. ver. 3;

The people stood up, and the rulers took counsel together: against the Lord, and against his Anointed. Psalm ii. 2.

They cast their heads together with one consent : and avere confederate against him. Pfalm lxxxiii. 5.

He heard the blasphemy of the multitude, and fear was on every side: while they conspired together against him, to take away his life. Psalm xxxi. 15.

They spoke against him with false tongues, and compassed him about with words of hatred; and fought against him without a cause. Psalm cix. 2.

Yea, his own familiar friends whom he trusted: they that ate of his bread, laid great wait for him. Psalm xli

Psalm xxxv. 12. otherwise appointed; i. e. the ordinary morning and evening fervice, and office for the Communion are to be faid as usual, except where any thing in either of these services is to be added to, or to be uled in the room ot, the ordinary service for the day : as the Collects, for instance, and the several Prayers appointed on these occasions, are to be used either instead of or besides the prayers daily in use; and the Hymns, Psalms, and Leso fons, the Epistle and Gospel, instead of those in ordinary course.

Let the sentence of guiltiness proceed against bim : and now that he lieth, let him rise up no more. ver. 8.

O my soul, come not thou into their secret ; unto. their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united : for in their anger they flew a man. Gen. xlix. 6.

But, O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; thou, God, to whom vengeance belongeth: be favourable and gracious unto Sion. Psalm xciv. I; and li. 18.

Be merciful, O Lord, unto thy people, whom thou haft redeemed : and lay not innocent blood to our charge. Deut. xxi. 8.

O fhut not up our fouls with finners : por our lives with the blood-thirsty. Pfalm xxvi. 9.

Deliver us, from blood-guiltiness, O God, thou that ark; the God of aur salvation : and our tongues shall sing of thy righteousness. Pfalm li. 14

Thou wilt destroy them that speak leasing : the Lord abhors both the blood-thirsty, and deceitful man. ver. 6.

O how suddenly do they consume: perish, and come to a fearful end! Psalm 1xxiü. 18.

Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God Almighty: just and true are thy ways, O King of faints,

Most mighty God, terrible in thy judgments, and

wonderful in thy doings toward the children of men; who ia thy heavy displeasure didft fuffer the life of our gracious Sovereign King Charles the First to be, as this day, taken away by the hands of cruel and bloody men: We thy finful creatures here assembled before thee do, in the behalf of all the people of this land, humbly confefs, that they were the crying sins of this Nation, which brought down this heavy judgment upon us. But, O gracious God, when thou makes inquisition for blood, lay not the guilt of this innocent blood, (the shedding whereof nothing but the blood of thy Son can expiate) lay it not to the charge of the people of this land ; nor let it ever be required of us or our pofterity.
