Then shall be sung the following or some other suitable Hymn:

ALL people that on earth do dwell,

Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell;
Come ye before Him and rejoice.

The Lord ye know is God indeed,
Without our aid He did us make;
We are His folk, He doth us feed,
And for His sheep He doth us take.

O enter then His gates with praise,
Approach with joy His courts unto;
Praise, laud, and bless His Name always,
For it is seemly so to do.

For why? The Lord our God is good

His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth at all times firmly stood,

And shall from age to age endure. Amen.

Then shall the Minister and People make their CONFESSION OF FAITH, saying:

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven

and earth:

And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; [He descended into hell; *] The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; and the Life everlasting. Amen.

* Or, He continued in the state of the dead, and under the power of death, until the third day.

The People being seated, the presiding Minister shall say,

DEARLY beloved in the Lord God our Heavenly Father, having in His grace, which is in Jesus Christ our Lord, brought to its consummation, our work of preparing for the honour of His holy Name, a house within whose walls His Gospel is to be truly preached, His Sacraments are to be faithfully administered, and prayer and praise are to be offered unto Him, we are now gathered in His Presence for the purpose of devoting this house, by a solemn act of worship, to its proper and sacred use. Let us therefore seek His blessing on this Service.

Then shall the Minister say,

Let us pray.

¶ If so desired, the PRAYER may be in the form following.

LORD God, almighty and most merciful, whom the heaven, even the heaven of heavens cannot contain, much less temples built with hands, but who also dwellest with men, and delightest Thyself in the assemblage of Thy people; Cleanse our hearts, we beseech Thee, from all evil thought and desire, and vouchsafe Thy divine Presence and blessing, that both those things may please Thee which we do at this present, and also that we may at length obtain Thy favour with life everlasting in Thy heavenly kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here let the Minister and the People say together the LORD's PRAYER:

OUR Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

The Scripture shall then be read. Proper lessons are: from the OLD TESTAMENT, 1 Kings viii. 22-53, and from the NEW TESTAMENT, 1 Corinthians iii., Ephesians ii., or Revelation xxi.

Then shall the Minister speak these WORDS OF DEDICATION, the People standing, and joining in the words printed in Capitals.

HOLY, Blessed, and Glorious Trinity: three Persons and

one God:

TO THEE WE DEDICATE THIS HOUSE.

Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Our Father which art in heaven:

TO THEE WE DEDICATE THIS HOUSE.

Son of God, the Only Begotten of the Father, Head of the Body, which is the Church: Head over all things to the Church; Prophet, Priest, and King of Thy people:

TO THEE WE DEDICATE THIS HOUSE.

God the Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son given to be our abiding Teacher, Sanctifier, and Comforter; Lord and Giver of Life:

TO THEE WE DEDICATE THIS HOUSE.

¶ Then shall the Minister say,

ARISE, O Lord, into Thy rest, Thou and the ark of Thy strength. Let Thy priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Thy people shout for joy. Put Thy Name in this place. Let Thine eyes be opened toward it; and hearken unto the supplications of Thy people when they pray in this place, and hear Thou in heaven Thy dwelling place, and when thou hearest, forgive. Amen.

Then shall the appointed Minister say,

Let us pray.

And the Congregation, reverently bowing down, shall follow in their hearts

THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, Thou dwellest not in temples made with hands, neither art Thou worshipped with men's hands, as though Thou neededst anything, seeing that Thou givest to all life and breath and all things; when we bring Thee our best, we serve Thee only with what is Thine own; and when we have done all, we are but unprofitable servants. Yet do Thou, O Lord, who delightest Thyself in the praises of the Sanctuary, accept

the offering of this house which Thy people have builded to the glory of Thy holy Name. We consecrate it to Thee, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, to be henceforth the House of God, and a gate of heaven; we set it apart from all common and worldly uses, for a temple and a sanctuary, where Thy holy Gospel shall be preached; where the prayers of the Church shall be made unto Thee without ceasing; where Thy high praises shall be devoutly sung; where the ordinances of Thy Word shall be duly administered; to which Thy people shall throng with cheerful steps. How amiable are Thy tabernacles, Ŏ Lord of Hosts! I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the House of the Lord.

When Thy holy Word is preached in this place may it be spoken in the demonstration of the Spirit and with power; speak Thou comfortably to Thy people, O Lord, through the lips of Thine ambassadors, and let Thy Word be as the fire, and as the hammer to hardened hearts. When Thy holy Sacraments are here administered, may those spiritual graces which the outward signs do represent and signify, flow into the hearts of Thy servants; so that receiving the seal of Baptism, they shall indeed receive the renewing of the Holy Ghost; and partaking of the Lord's Table, they shall indeed feed by faith on the Body and Blood of Christ. Here let God be worshipped in spirit and in truth, and let not our Father's house be made a place of merchandise. Here when Thy people come to offer their gifts upon Thine altar, let them consider Him, who though He was rich for our sakes became poor, that we through His poverty might be made rich. Let the glory of the Lord fill this house, and the Spirit of God descend and dwell in His Church. Amen.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hast declared Thy love for the world by giving Thine only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life; Vouchsafe to Thy Church gifts of spiritual power, to the hastening in all the world of Thy Kingdom which is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¶If it be the will of the congregation to make an Offering, it may be received here, and consecrated with Prayer.

Then a Hymn shall be sung.

¶Then shall follow

THE SERMON.

¶ A Hymn may be sung after the Sermon.

Then the Minister shall say,

Let us pray.

¶ If so desired, the PRAYER may be offered in the form following:

MOST glorious God; Accept through Thy beloved Son,

our thanksgivings for Thine unspeakable love and goodness. Thou art the Father of mercies, and God of all consolation, full of compassion, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin. We thank Thee that Thou hast founded Thy Church upon the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief Corner Stone. We thank Thee that Thou hast committed to Thy ministers the Word of reconciliation. Continue Thy loving-kindness unto us, that we may rejoice and be glad in Thee all our days. Guide us by Thy counsel, and afterward receive us to Thy glory; where, with all the blessed host of heaven, we may behold, adore, and perfectly and joyfully praise Thee, our most glorious Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier, for ever and ever. Amen.

TOr this:

GOD, whose glory is great in all Thy churches, and the praises of whose Name resound in the assemblies of Thy saints; We, Thy servants, would humble ourselves before Thee, and worship Thine infinite Majesty. We celebrate Thy wisdom, power, and goodness, that shine forth in the works of creation and redemption through Jesus Christ our Lord. We bless Thee for all temporal and spiritual good that we continually receive at Thy bountiful hands. But more especially, with all Thy people as
