The object of the writer of this Manual being to aid the young student in attaining a good knowledge of the Text of Scripture, the attention of all students is earnestly requested to the following remarks: With the Headings of Chapters, which may be used as tests of memory for the subject matter of each chapter, there are also inserted Headings of Paragraphs. By a careful use of these every fact of Genesis may be stored up or recalled at pleasure. A diligent use of these headings is strongly recommended. In order to aid in acquiring a general knowledge of the history of the Patriarchs, a tabular view is given, that their relation to each other may be better understood. Such information as may be required for separate subjects will be found in the Appendix. A list of Authors is appended, in order that the student may have confidence in giving answers from the Notes. In some instances the names of authors referred to may be found in the Notes also. As all words in the text, on which Notes are written, are printed in italics, it is strongly recommended to test the memory by recalling through the text the information that may have been found in the Notes, so as to have the words of the Scripture itself in the student's remembrance. Attention should be given to the meaning of Names of persons and places; also to the Names of Jehovah, so as to be able to say why they are employed in their respective contexts. ST.
