and His Spirit into their hearts, and show by their lives their love to Him. These bring forth fruit to His honour and glory, and Jesus likens them to the good seed that fell into good ground and yielded an abundant harvest.

E often read of Jesus praying. evening He went up into a mountain, and continued praying to God far into the night.

Meantime His disciples were in a ship rowing across the lake. A storm of wind had arisen, and the little vessel was roughly tossed by the waves, so that progress was very slow and difficult.

In the early morning, the disciples saw some one walking towards them on the sea. They were afraid, and cried out, "It is a spirit." It was Jesus! It was Jesus! When He heard their cry, He spake to them, and said, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid."

The disciples were very glad to hear the voice of Jesus; and Peter replied, "Lord, if it be Thou, bid me come to Thee on the water." Jesus said, "Come."

should have looked to

Jesus and not at the waves, and should have trusted Jesus to keep him safely.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN.

LAWYER once asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" Jesus answered by the parable of "The Good Samaritan.” "A certain man," said Jesus, "went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.”

A certain priest, belonging to the Temple, came along, and when he saw the poor man, he passed by on the other side. A Levite also came and looked on the sufferer, but also went his way.

But a Samaritan as he journeyed came where the wounded man lay, and seeing him, had pity upon him. He went to him, bound up his wounds, using oil and wine; then he set the sufferer on his own ass, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow, when he

departed, he gave the

poor man,

"and," said

he, "whatsoever thou spendest more, when

I come again

I will repay thee."

THE GOOD SAMARITAN.

"Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among thieves?" asked Jesus.

The lawyer answered, "He that showed mercy upon him."

Jesus said, "Go and do thou likewise."
