mind." Here is the Spirit of a sound minu Faith is a persuasion in the mind; and, sound and solid truth being fixed in the mind, the Spirit of faith and of truth is this sound mind.

But we," says Paul," have the mind of Christ." Yea, more: Paul calls this plainly the Spirit's mind. "God, who searcheth the heart, knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit." And such an influence as this operating on the sinner makes him spiritually minded; and “to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Paul goes on to explain himself more plainly, when he says, " and they that are after the Spirit do mind the things of the Spirit." They set their minds upon his influences, his operations, and his fruits. They set their hearts upon life, and often complain of being dead. They long for the liberty of the Spirit, and often complain of bondage. In short, the love, joy, peace, comfort, and the blessings of faith and hope these are the things of the Spirit, of which poor sinners feel their need. And, as Paul says, "They that are after the Spirit do mind the things of the Spirit, and they that are after the flesh the things of the flesh."

AM, my dear Granny, in a sad bustle, and much unsettled at present, for moving is to me a hurrying job. But here we have no continuing city, nor is this world intended to be our home; if it were we should be contented with it, as well as others, without seeking after one to come. Restlessness and disquietude will possess the minds of God's elect until that busy faculty finds its centre, its resting place, and its appointed entertainment. "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee, and wilt save him because he trusteth in thee." But the carnal mind is enmity against God;" it is not, cannot be, subject to God's law, being of itself carnal, loving evil, and hating all good, and is of the devil. What then is to be done, seeing this is the real case? "Let that mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus," says Paul. And what mind is that? Why we have received

DEAR BECKY,

AM sorry you troubled yourself about the pigeons, as I am not in want of temporals. The Almighty still deals kindly and bountifully with his poor unworthy servant, insomuch, that his goodness often overwhelms me with sweet and pleasing grief, knowing my insignificance and native rebellion. But "he received gifts for the rebellious, that the Lord God might dwell among them." Sensible sinners, who feel their need of him, and submit to his sceptre, he dearly loves; for such he seeks and saves, for such he died, and to such he sends his word, and pours out his Spirit and grace; and he will appear to such a second time, and take them to himself.

"All things," my dear friend, “work together for good" to those who love his name; and the burning of Providence chapel among the rest. That cost three thousand pounds; and we have more than six thousand one
