The Targum of Jonathan renders it thus. There fball not fail to be Kings and Prefidents of the House of Judah, nor Scribes teaching the Law out of his Seed, until the Time that the King Meffiah, who is the younger of his Sons, cometh; and for him fball the Pecple melt, or pine.

The Targum of Onkelos, renders it thus, Their fhall not be removed a Prince

from the Houfe of Judah, nor a Scribe from bis Sons Sons, until the Time when THE MESSIAH cometh, to whom appertaineth the Kingdom, and bim fball the People obey.

Which is alfo the Opinion of feveral others Jewish Rabbins, for to the fame Purpose you may find this very Text explained in Berefbith Ketenna. And in Berefbith Rabba, this Text is explained thus. "The Sceptre shall not depart, &c. that is till the King Messiah comes who is to break the Kingdoms with a Rod, as it is faid in Pfal. ii. 9. Thou Jball "break them with a Rod of Iron, thou “sbalt dash them in Pieces like a Potters "Veffel. Then follows," Nor a Law"Giver from between his Feet. This "alfo alludes to Meffiab the King, who "fhall come to tread them under his Feet. "As it is faid by the Prophet, Ifai. xxvi.
