DISTRICT OF CONNECTICUT:

BE it remembered, that on the twenty-eighth day of

September, in the thirty-ninth year of the Independence of the United States of America, Chauncey Allen Goodrich, of the said District, hath deposited in this Office the Title of a Book, the right whereof he claims as Author, in the words following, to wit: "Elements of Greek Grammar, taken chiefly from the Grammar of Caspar Frederick Hachenberg-Adopted for use in Yale College, New-Haven;" in conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled, An Act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the Copies of Maps, Charts and Books, to the Authors and Proprietors of such Copies, during the times therein mentioned.

HENRY W. EDWARDS, Clerk of the District of Connecticut.

THE materials of this work, as stated in the Title page, were derived chiefly from the Grammar of Hachenberg. Numerous additions, however, have been made from other sources; and the plan new modelled in conformity with the existing mode of instruction in this country. The list of Anomalous Verbs is from Valpy: the observations on Dialects, from the Glocester Greek Gram

mar.

In issuing a second Edition, the Author has chiefly to regret, that a severe and long protracted illness has limited his attention to the retrenchment of redundances and the correction of errors, in a work originally compiled in great haste. The materials, particularly, which were designed to enrich the Syntax, he is compelled to reserve for a future edition.

A few errors of the press have unavoidably occurred, from the publication of the work at a distance from the Author, and beyond the reach of his inspection,
