1. Name the different adverbs we have in French.

(i) Give the other cases (singular and plural) of Hundeschnur, Partei, Kaufleute, Bestie, Art, Trupp, Bund, Zunftgenossen, Fahrt.

(ii) Comment on the following:-auf Ostern; zur Frankfurter Messe, Frist.

(iii) What parts of speech are selbst, zumeist, erst, sobald, hinüber? Illustrate their use by sentences.

(iv) Give the principal parts of wusste, fuhr auf, freigesprochen, mitgeritten.

(v) Translate also p. 14, 1. 14 to p. 15, 1. 7. Find out the strong verbs in this passage, and give their chief parts.

3. Name six adjectives formed from nouns, and having the suffixes en, ern, los, isch, reich. Give the comparative and superlative of blass, klar, artig, viele, gehorsam.

4. Give the German for :

(i) March 31st, 1884. Every one has some particular faults, and some have more than others. When we came to the last gate, we had to wait five minutes before it was opened. Both men were on horseback, but one rode home, and the other crossed over the bridge and went into the town. We heard of your being ill. Having finished our breakfast, we started off at

once.

(i) Give the other cases (singular and plural) of Flegeljahren, Feld, Dienstmann, Wortes (1. 31), Forstwart, Laut, Bahn, Armbrust.

(ii) Write down all the prepositions in the first ten lines of the above passage, and show the case governed by each. Also give the principal parts of all the strong verbs, and write down the subjects, predicates, and objects of each sentence in the

same.

(iii) Parse zum mindesten, jenseit (1. 9), athemlos (1. 20), gleich als wolle er ihn dem Herrn zum Schusse stellen.

(iv) Write in full the verb kehrte um (1. 12).

3. Translate -Hermann und Dorothea, Terpsichore, "Da versetzte der Sohn bescheiden "&c., to "und so verliess er die Stube."

(i) Give the positive and comparative degrees of der unterste, die besten, der erste, and the corresponding adverbial forms.

(ii) Supply the definite article to the following, and show by what rules you decide on the gender of each :- Gekicher, Liedchen, Schrank, Schule, Lesen, Wirtschaft, Bursche.

4. Prefix the following particles to the past participles of any verbs-aus, durch, nach, über, be, um, ent, unter, wider.

5. Translate into German

"At the present day these farms, stretching a considerable distance along the slopes of the hillside, are in the highest state of cultivation. Inch by inch, acre by acre, the land has been reclaimed... 6. Explain :
