(a)

Give a tabular account of the events of Holy Week, as recorded by St. John. Where is the anointing referred to (John ch. xi. v. 2) more fully detailed? On what occasion was the last witness of the Father vouchsafed? Under what simile does Christ represent Himself during the Paschal discourse? What promise was then reiterated? Compare ch. xiv. with the Prologue. Christ was probably examined twice before the Sanhedrim, privately and officially; On what charge was He ultimately condemned? Why did Pilate reluctantly consent to His execution on a different plea? Why are the appearances of Christ after the Resurrection so carefully enumerated by the Evangelists? How many are given by St. John? What is omitted by him? Explain "The Jews preparation day."

(b)

The Epistle to the Colossians is closely linked with two others by the same author: in one case the conformity is that of doctrine, language, and style; in the other, the connection is more personal and commonplace. Illustrate this statement. Show that while the great elementary truths of the faith remained unchanged, St. Paul's teaching on matters of detail was modified by further revelations of the Spirit.

We must conclude that God's scheme of moral government is quite beyond our comprehension, yet that our partial ignorance of it cannot be alleged as an invalidation of the proofs of Religion. Did we comprehend this scheme entirely, we might find that the prevailing disorders usually cited as inconsistent with God's justice and goodness, would prove, on the contrary, instances of both. Trace out this argument.

(b)

Give Hooker's remarks on the sufficiency of Scripture to its end and on the benefits of a written supernatural law. Distinguish between Natural and Positive laws, showing that the discrimination runs through every sort of law, including the supernatural. What alone can justify change of a divinely appointed law? Give an example of such change? Is it well to apply to Scripture for every detail of ritual?

(c)

Give Paley's remarks on the difference of worth observable in the coincidences he offers, and on the purpose of his work. What passages are collated to prove the youth of Timothy; and what others to show that St. Paul regarded preaching to be his special mission? Why does he conclude that the Apostle

visited Troas twice?
