(a)

What prophecy was fulfilled by the sojourn of the Israelites in Egypt? What sign remained with them as the token of their return to their promised inheritance? What length of time probably intervened between the death of Joseph and the Exodus? What political event altered their condition meanwhile? How is Jacob's final act of worship described in Hebrews? Show that his youthful fraud was punished by frauds practised on him by others. To what angel is allusion made, ch. xlviii. v. 16? what may be argued therefrom? Comment on "in their self-will they digged down a wall."

(b)

At what period did St. Peter's confession of our Lord as Messiah occur; and what followed it? Where did the Transfiguration probably take place? On what other occasions are Peter, James, and John singled out for special revelations of Christ's mysteries? By what miracle of healing was this manifestation succeeded? Comment on the payment of the tribute money. In what did the miracle consist? What lesson is taught, ch. xviii. vv. 1-20? Explain the "tormentors." Elias truly shall first come and restore "all things."

(c)

Explain the course of St. Paul's argument when brought before the Sanhedrim, and the division which consequently ensued. What caused his removal to Cæsarea? What do you know of Felix, Drusilla, and Festus. Give a probable reason for St. Paul's appeal to Cæsar. Name the reigning Emperor. Quote instances to prove that St. Paul always made use of circumstances in his favour when he could do so without discredit to his mission.

(d)

Which of the articles of the Creed refer to the Third Person of the Trinity? How was His presence manifested in the Jewish Church? Which Epistle dwells strongly on the doctrine of "The Communion of Saints?" How does the explanation of the Creed particularize the offices of the Trinity in the scheme of salvation?

In what respects is Joseph a type of Christ? Show that the transition of the chosen people from a family to a nation was foreseen and provided for by Jacob on his deathbed. Comment on, "Buy us and our land;" "Am I in the place of God?" "I will divide them in Jacob." (See also Junior Paper.)

(b)

On what occasions did St. Peter exercise the power ascribed to him, ch. xvi. vv. 18-19. What occurred during Christ's last visit to Capernaum? Notice that His last teaching there repeats the substance of the Sermon on the Mount. (See also Junior Questions.)

(c)

Which of the Gospels is generally attributed to the period of St. Paul's imprisonment at Cæsarea? Contrast his oratory with that of Tertullus. How does he point out the weak spot in the accusation against him? Comment on the appeal to Cæsar. What difficulty was felt by Festus regarding the charge on which the Apostle should be committed for trial at Rome?

(d)

Point out some differences between the old and new lectionaries. Whence are most of our collects derived? What is meant by the Lesser Litany? Explain the title "Te Deum," and describe the character of this canticle, saying what you know of its compilation. What place does it hold in Christian worship?

(e)

Give Paley's reasons for supposing that previous to writing First Corinthians St. Paul had already changed his original intention of visiting Corinth on his way to Macedonia. How may his silence regarding this change be accounted for? To whom does he probably allude, 2 Cor. iii. v. 1? How does Paley explain ch. xiii. v. 1, which appears to contradict the fact that the Apostle had then made only one visit to Corinth?

Comment on the political changes in the condition of the chosen race as recorded in the First and Second Books of Samuel. What provision was made therein for its religious instruction? Trace its effect through the subsequent history of the Jews. Account for the decay of Saul's house. What do you know of Ahitophel, Doeg, Hushai, Zadok, Gilboa, Rephaim, Žiklag?

(b)

Which of the appointed psalms may be dated as late as the Maccabæan period? What periods of Hebrew history were richest in psalmody? to which would you ascribe Books III., IV., with some notable exceptions? Name allusions to the wanderings in the wilderness; the destruction of Jerusalem; the Return; or to incidents in the life of Christ.

Give some metaphors under which Christ represents Himself. What is related in this Gospel of Nicodemus, Caiaphas, Nathanael, Bethabara, Ephraim, Peræa?

Explain the title of Butler's work, the scope of his argument, and the assumptions he takes for granted. Why does he conclude that dissolution is not necessarily destruction; and that the admission of immortality offers a presumption of future happiness or misery dependent on our conduct here?
