1. What particulars do we gather from Chaucer in his Knight's Tale with regard to Ipolita, Capaneus, Creon, and Perotheus? Where is Cithea?

2. Illustrate Chaucer's habit (i) of contracting words, and (ii) of pronouncing the e final contrary to our present custom. In what cases is the final e in Chaucer usually elided?

3. In which of Shakespeare's plays do we hear of Theseus and Ipolita? What part do they take in the play?

4. Write out in good modern prose the passages: Knight's Tale, 298-310, 441-445, 90-93.

5. Explain the following words and phrases:
