(a) What further step in God's dealings with man is recorded Gen. xii.? Give the leading events of Abram's life previous to his change of name. Where was the promise first made and afterwards renewed ? Why did Lot separate from Abram? Give the circumstances of the covenant, chap. xv.
What was then foretold? What portion had Ishmael in the covenant on his receiving the appointed sign? Who are his descendants? Who were the priests of these patriarchal times ? Comment on “ This shall not be thine heir ; “Beer-lahai-roi ; " " His hand will be against every man ;" "I have lift up my hand unto the Lord.”
(6) What do you know of this Evangelist? For what converts was his Gospel written, and what is its predominant object ? Compare Christ's genealogy as given here with that recorded by St. Luke, and explain their difference. In what different order do the two place the temptations of Christ ? Contrast them with the temptation of Eve. Who was Herod the Great ? Why did devout Jews confidently expect the speedy coming of the promised Messiah? (See Gen. xlix. v. 10.) Name four incidents of the infancy of Christ narrated in this Gospel only. Explain “Shiloh ; " “ Wise men from the East." "
(C) What work is recorded in the appointed portion of the Acts ? What city may be regarded as the centre of the New Church ? where is it first mentioned ? How were its founders appointed, and what was their rank? Name an early convert and teacher. Give some notice of the famine at Jerusalem. How far did the first apostolic journey extend, and in what manner was the testimony received ? Comment on the mission in Cyprus. Distinguish between Antioch chap. xiii. vo. 1 and 14.
(d) When and where did the Catechism first appear in our PrayerBook, and from what sources was it chiefly derived ?
Who were its compilers, and what important addition was made at the Hampton Court Conference? What does its name import, and to what rite should it lead? Whence is the practice of naming children derived ? Give other names for god-parents. What is pre-supposed of the catechumens?
