Euclid

[N. B. Two Propositions at least from the Second Book are required.]

1. Define-trapezium, gnomon, polygon, rhomboid, segment of a circle, scalene triangle.

2. From a given point draw a straight line equal to a given straight line.

3. In any right-angled triangle, the square which is described on the side subtending the right angle is equal to the squares described on the sides which contain the right angle.

4. Describe a square that shall be equal to a given rectilineal figure.

5. If from the ends of the side of a triangle there be drawn two straight lines to a point within the triangle, these shall be less than the other two sides of the triangle, but shall contain a greater angle.

6. Parallelograms on the same base, and between the same parallels, are equal to one another.

7. If a straight line be bisected, and produced to any point, the rectangle contained by the whole line thus produced, and the part of it produced, together with the square on half the line bisected, is equal to the square on the straight line which is made up of the half and the part produced.

8. Describe a parallelogram that shall be equal to a given triangle, and have one of its angles equal to a given rectilineal angle.

9. In obtuse-angled triangles, if a perpendicular be drawn from either of the acute angles to the opposite side produced, the square on the side subtending the obtuse angle is greater than the squares on the sides containing the obtuse angle, by twice the rectangle contained by the side on which, when produced, the perpendicular falls, and the straight line intercepted without the triangle, between the perpendicular and the obtuse angle.

10. The angles which one straight line makes with another straight line on one side of it, either are two right angles, or are together equal to two right angles.

11. If there be two straight lines, one of which is divided into any number of parts, the rectangle contained by the two straight lines is equal to the rectangles contained by the undivided line, and the several parts of the divided line.
