that Man remains in the Concupifence to all the above Evils, and is only restrained from the outward Commiffion of them by worldly Confiderations; wherefore fuch a Person after Death, although he had not committed Murder, Adultery, Theft, and false Witness, is still in the Concupifcence thereof, and alfo committeth them in the outward Act, when the external [Part or Principle], which he had in the World, is taken away from him; for all Concupifcence remaineth with Man after Death; and hence it is, that they who have not reftrained the Concupifcencies of Evil, during their Abode in the World, are united with Hell in Act, and must needs have their Lot with those who are in Hell.. But the Cafe is different with those, who reftrain the Concupifcence of Murder, of Adultery, of Theft, and of falfe Witness, because to commit fuch Evils is contrary to the Law of God; these, after enduring fome Combat against the forbidden Evil, lofe at length all Inclination, confequentH

ly all Concupifcence leading to the Commiffion of it, faying in their Hearts that it is Sin, in it's Effence infernal and diabolical: Thefe, after Death, when the external [Part or Principle] which they had in the World is taken away, are one with Heaven in Act, and being in the Lord, they are admitted into Heaven.

64. It is a common Maxim in every Religion, that Man ought to examine himfelf, to do the Work of Repentance, and to defift from Sins, and that in Cafe he doth not this, he is in a State of Damnation; that this is a general Maxim taught by all Religion, may be feen above, n. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. It is alfo an universal Maxim prevailing throughout the Christian World, that the Decalogue ought to be taught, and that Children fhould be initiated thereby into the Chriftian Religion, for the Decalogue is put into the Hands of all young Children; they are also taught by their Parents and Masters,

that

that to do the Evils forbidden in the Decalogue is to fin against God; yea, the Parents and Mafters are convinced thereof, whilft they are inftructing their Children: How furprizing then is it, that these fame Parents and Masters, and also their Children when they grow up, fhould conceive that they are not under that Law of the Decalogue, and that they cannot do the Things prefcribed in that Law! And can there be any other Ground or Reason for fuch a Conceit, but that they love the forbidden Evils, and in Confequence love the Falfes which favour them? These therefore are they, who do not make the Precepts of the Decalogue Precepts of Religion: That the fame Perfons live without Religion, will be feen in the DOCTRINE CONCERNING FAITH.

contained in the Decalogue; and all they who live according thereto, from a religious Principle, are faved; but all, who do not live according thereto from a religious Principle, are damned: They who live according thereto from a religious Principle, being inftructed after Death by Angels, receive Truths, and acknowledge the Lord; the Reafon is, because they fhun Evils as Sins, and hence are principled in Good, and Good loves Truth, and receives it from a Love-Defire, as was fhewn above, n. 32 to 41. This is meant by the Lord's Words to the Jews, "The Kingdom of God fhall be taken from you, and fhall be given to a Nation bringing forth Fruits," Matt. xxi. 43; and alfo by thefe Words, "When the Lord of the Vineyard cometh, he fhall defroy the wicked, and fhall let out bis Vineyard unto other Hufbandmen, who fall render Him the Fruits in their Seafon," Matt. xxi. 40, 41; and by these, I Jay unto you that many shall

the North and the South, and fall fit down in the Kingdom of God; but the Sons of the Kingdom fhall be caft into outer Darknefs," Matt. viii. 11, 12. Luke xiii. 29.

66. We read in Mark, that "a certain rich Perfon came to Jefus, and asked him, what he should do to inherit eternal Life?" To whom Jefus replied, "Thou knoweft the Commandment, thou shalt not commit Adultery, thou fhalt not kill, thou shalt not bear falfe Witness, thou fhalt not fteal, honour thy Father and Mother" He anfwering faid, "All these Things I have kept from my Youth:" Jefus looked at him and loved him: He faid nevertheless, " One Thing thou lackeft, go thy Way, fell whatsoever thou haft, and give to the poor, thus thou fhalt have Treasure in the Heavens, and come, take up the Crofs, and follow Me," x. 17 to 22. It is faid that Jefus loved him, and this because he faid he had kept those Com
