EASTER DAY PROPER PSALMS. MORNING PRAYER. PSALM 2. WHY do the heathen rage? and why do the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord, and against his anointed; Let us break, say they, their bonds asunder, and cast away their chords from us. He who dwelleth in heaven shall laugh them to scorn; the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Sion. I will declare the decree; the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession; Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron, and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. my heart is fixed; I will sing, and give praise. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings; be learned, ye who are judges of the earth. Awake up, my glory; awake, lute and harp; I myself will awake right early. I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the people, and I will sing unto thee among the nations. For the greatness of thy mercy reacheth unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be above all the earth. Serve the Lord in fear; and rejoice before him with reverence. Submit to the Son, lest he be angry, and so ye perish from the right way, if his wrath be kindled, yea, but a little. Blessed are all they who put their trust in him. PSALM 57. BE merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me, for my soul trusteth in thee; and under the shadow of thy wings shall be my refuge, until this calamity be overpast. I will call unto the most high God, even unto the God who will perform all things for me. He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him who would swallow me up. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let thy glory be above all the earth. My heart is fixed, O God, Now unto the King eternal, &c. Be honour and glory, &c. EVENING PRAYER. PRAISE the Lord, ye servants of his; O praise the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord, from this time forth for evermore. Let the Lord's name be praised, from the rising up of the sun unto the going down of the same. The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Lord, than to put confidence in princes. Who is like unto the Lord our God, who hath his dwelling so high, and yet humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and earth? The Lord is my strength and my song, and is become my salvation. The voice of joy and salvation is in the dwellings of the righteous; the right hand of the Lord bringeth mighty things to pass. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord bringeth mighty things to pass. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad Thou art my God, and I will thank thee; thou art my God, and I will praise thee. in it. Save, now, O Lord; O Lord, send us now prosperity. Blessed be he who cometh in the name of the Lord; we bless you, ye who are of the house of the Lord. ANTHEM. O GIVE thanks unto the Lord, and call upon his name; tell the people what things he hath done. O let your songs be of him, and praise him; and let your talking be of all his wondrous works. FOR WHITSUNDAY. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face for evermore. The Lord gave the word, and great was the company of those who publish ed it. His salvation is nigh unto those who fear him, that glory may dwell in the land. O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is gracious, and his mercy endureth for ever. Now unto the King eternal, &c. Be honour and glory, &c. Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other. PROPER PSALMS. MORNING PRAYER. PSALM 68. LET God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; let those also who hate him flee before him. Thou, O God, sentest a gracious rain upon thine inheritance, and refreshedst it when it was weary. They dwelt in the midst of thy food; for thou, O God, didst of thy goodness prepare for the poor. The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those who published it. Like as the smoke vanisheth, so shalt thou drive them away; and like as wax melteth at the fire, so shall the ungodly perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad, and rejoice before God; yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. O sing unto God, and sing praises unto his name; magnify him who rideth apon the heavens; praise him in his name JEHOVAH, and rejoice before him. He is a Father of the fatherless, and defendeth the cause of the widows; even God in his holy habitation. God restoreth the solitary to their families, and bringeth the prisoners out of captivity; but letteth the rebellious continue in a dry land. O God, when thou wentest forth before the people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; The earth shook, and the heavens dropped at the presence of God; even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel. Kings with their armies did flee and were discomfited, and she who staid at home divided the spoil. The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels, and the Lord is among them, as in the holy place of Sinai. |
