New Testament; and then the Service may proceed as follows.
SURELY it is meet to be said unto God, We have done iniquity.
To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have sinned against him.
Let us therefore confess and lament our manifold transgressions, before the throne of grace.
ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, we confess that in many things we have all offended; we have not duly improved the talents with which thou hast intrusted us; we have too often neglected our duty to ourselves and to our fellow creatures, and our consciences witness against us. With humble and penitent hearts we lament before thee, O our Father, every instance of disobedience; whatever we have done amiss in thought, word, or deed; every of fence against thee, our neighbour, or ourselves.
Forgive our sins, we be seech thee, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness; and may we bring forth the fruits which are meet for repentance, by walking in newness of life, in humble expectation of thy mercy declared unto mankind through Jesus Christ our Lord.
O God, make clean our hearts within us, and take not thy holy Spirits from
Then shall be read the COLLECT FOR THE DAY, and one or more of the following Prayers.
FOR TEMPORAL MERCIES.
ALMIGHTY God, the giver of every good and perfect gift, we recommend ourselves and all our concerns to the disposal of thy gracious providence. Thou knowest what is truly good for us, and it is our highest happiness that we are under thy fatherly care. In humble submission to thy wise and gracious will, we beseech thee to bless us with health of body,
and peace of mind; and to bestow upon us such a share of the good things of this life, as thou knowest to be best for us. Conduct us by thy gracious hand through all the changes of this world; and may we at last be perfect and happy, in that heavenly inheritance, which is incorruptible, and fadeth not away. Amen.
FOR ALL MANKIND.
O GOD, the Father of all mankind, we offer up unto thee our prayers and intercessions for our fellow creatures. Mercifully regard the work of thy hands. Let thy name be known, and thy pure worship prevail throughout the world. May all people, nations, and languages acknowledge thee, the true God. Put an end to idolatry, superstition, and all false religion. May wisdom and goodness, liberty and peace, charity and happiness, every where abound; and thy kingdom of truth and righteousness spread and flourish, until it cover the face of the whole earth. Amen.

O GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the fountain of light, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift, we humbly beseech thee to send down thy blessing upon christian Ministers of every denomination ; may they be so replenished with the truth of thy doctrines, and so exemplary in unaffected piety and goodness of life,
that they may become the means of turning many to righteousness, and of promoting the knowledge and practice of the pure and holy gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
FOR THE AFFlicted.
O GOD, the creator and preserver of mankind, we commend to thy fatherly goodness, all those who are any ways afflicted or distressed in mind, body, or estate; may it please thee to comfort and relieve them according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. Amen.
O LORD God our heavenly Father, who hast permitted us with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee, fulfil, we beseech thee, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as thou in thy wisdom knowest to be good for us. We commit ourselves to the care of thy providence; mercifully de
fend us from all the dangers to which we may be exposed; graciously accept these our services, and grant that in all our works begun, continued, and ended, we may glorify thy holy name, and finally obtain everlasting life and felicity; which we humbly ask in the name and as the disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord; in whose words we conclude our prayers.
OUR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
NOW unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory, through Jesus Christ, for ever and ever. Amen.
END OF SECOND SERVICE.
The Service is to be introduced by the following Sentences from the Minister to the People.
declare thine existence, and thy perfections; thy goodness is unchangeable, and thy wisdom past finding out. Thou art exalted in majesty and power, far above our highest conceptions; yet thou regardest us with the tenderness of a father, and showest favour and loving kindness to the children of men. We would now offer unto thee, O God, our religious homage, encouraged by thy goodness, and thy gracious promises in the gospel of thy Son. May we remember thee our Creator, Preserver, and Benefactor, with fear, love, and gratitude; and worship thee, who art a spirit, in spirit and in truth; that our various services may be acceptable in thy sight;
that by all thy means of grace, we may grow wiser and better, be gradually trained up for thy heavenly kingdom, and at last become partakers of that happiness which eye hath not seen, which ear hath not heard, and which it hath not entered into the heart of man to conceive. These our petitions we present unto thee, in the name and as the disciples of four Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
O thou who hearest prayer, unto thee do we lift up our souls.
Then shall be recited the following Anthem, or instead of it the Psalms appointed for the Day.
of thy goodness; the day is thine, the night also is thine, and thou makest the morning and the evening to rejoice.
