IN compiling this collection of Scripture Texts, and in order to make the work as plain as possible to all classes of people, a very simple plan has been adopted. It is, first of all, to fix a single page for every day in the year, and next, as a general rule, to allocate a single Bible subject to every page, or every day in the year. Of course this method necessitated the selection of a large variety of topics to extend over the whole year. This has been done with special care and attention. Consequently the principal doctrines, precepts, duties, promises, &c., in the entire Bible have been introduced with copious proofs, parallel texts, and illustrations. The subjects are alphabetically arranged, and thereby are easily found. The texts are all quoted from the Bible at full length, with few exceptions, and so Scripture can be compared to, or contrasted with Scripture, in a convenient and useful manner. In many instances, owing to the limited space of the page, several suitable passages have been reluctantly left out, and in many places the context should also be read. For obvious |
