MONDAY MORNING.

CONFESSION.

Most mighty and most merciful God, under the shadow of whose wing we have laid ourselves down in peace, and are risen from our beds in safety, we humbly approach thee in the name of thy beloved Son, and confess our utter unworthiness of thy protection and favour.

It is of thy mercies, O God, that we are preserved, because thy compassions fail not; they are new every morning. Thou art a God of holiness and faithfulness, of mercy and truth. But to us belong shame and confusion of face, because we have sinned against thee. We know, that if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us: but thy blessed word assures us, that if we confess our sins, thou art faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

There

O Lord, thou hast been about our bed, and art about our path, and spiest out all our ways. is nothing hid from thee: there is not a thought in our hearts, but thou knowest it altogether. Thou knowest how much there is in them which offendeth

thee: enable us by thy grace to know it also, and to cast it out, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thou art the God of our life; in thee we live and move and have our being; but how forgetful are we of thy merciful providence, thy perpetual presence, thy sustaining hand! Great have been thy forbearance and long-suffering towards us: great the multitude of thy mercies, for Jesus' sake.

O God of love, we are encouraged to draw nigh unto thee, by the gracious invitations and the faithful promises, with which thy holy word abounds. How else should we venture into thine awful presence, O Lord God Almighty, or take thy sacred name within our lips? We are guilty, corrupt, and helpless creatures. Our souls cleave unto the dust: and even our secret sins, which are unknown to others, and which our own deceitful hearts excuse or make light of, are all seen by thee, and justly expose us to thine anger and condemnation. But, for ever adored be thy name, mercy rejoiceth against judgment; and through the atoning sacrifice and perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ our Lord, thou art reconciled to all who come unto thee faithfully, in this thy appointed way; for there is redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of thy grace.

SUPPLICATION.

O Lord God, our heavenly Father, enable us heartily and effectually to flee for refuge to the hope that is set before us in Christ Jesus; help us to perceive our need of him, and to trust in the allsufficiency of his merit and mercy. And as thou hast, with thy holy arm, exalted thy beloved Son to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins, we implore from his grace that repentance which is not to be repented of; that true conviction of sin; that deep contrition, which must be in the heart of every penitent believer; that so, under a sense of thy pardoning love, we may forsake sin and every thing that is contrary to thy most holy word.

Thou didst afford us, good Lord, many precious opportunities of knowledge and grace on the Sabbath which is past; grant that the effect of them may be visible in our character and conduct through the ensuing week. Help us to shew, by our life and conversation, that we are not trusting to a form of godliness, and denying the power thereof. Having a name to live, let us not be dead before thee. Let us be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We look up unto thee this morning for thy saving health. We are going forth again to the duties of

our daily calling: we pray that thou, O God, wilt be with us evermore, when we go out and when we come in. Give us grace to watch and pray against the various temptations which beset us, that we may walk circumspectly in all our ways. Put thy fear into our hearts, that we may be kept from sinning against thee. Make us truly desirous to know thy will in all things; and grant us wisdom, and courage, and strength to perform it. Yea, Lord, knowing our own weakness, let us ever look up to thee for wisdom to direct, for strength to support, and for grace to sanctify us.

Cleanse our thoughts, cleanse our hearts this day, by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit. Incline us diligently to take heed to our ways, that we offend not in our tongue. Make us honest and faithful in our several stations and employments; and prosper, if it please thee, the work of our hands. But preserve us from being overcharged with the cares of this life; and save us from a covetous and worldly spirit, for the sake of him who hath called us out of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

Deliver us, Almighty Lord, from vanity and selfseeking, from all evil affections and desires. Give us a right spirit and a right judgment in all things. Teach us to set thee always before us; shew us the path of life; make thy way plain before our face. Grant that, whether we eat or drink, or whatever

we do, we may do all to the glory of thy great name; that thou in all things mayest be glorified, through Jesus Christ.

Enable us, O Lord, to have always a conscience void of offence toward thee and toward men; and to shew such love and good will, such meekness and gentleness in our whole behaviour, as become the disciples of the Lord Jesus. Subdue in us all pride and self-conceit: teach us, in lowliness of mind, to esteem others better than ourselves. Let us learn of our Master, to be meek and lowly in heart, that so we may find rest unto our souls.

INTERCESSION.

As members of the same household, and heirs together of the grace of life, may we dwell in love with one another; in all things approving ourselves as thy servants; that so, at the last, an entrance may be administered to us abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We commend ourselves, O Lord, and all our concerns, into thy hands, as into the hands of a faithful Creator and most merciful Saviour. Thou art our Rock and our Fortress, whereunto we will always resort; our Deliverer, our God, our Strength in whom we do trust.
