upon all its pastors, and all congregations committed to their charge, the healthful spirit of thy grace; and, that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. And to all opposers and all enemies and all persecutors extend thy goodness, O Lord; and deliver us from the spirit of violence and enmity and ill-will. O let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, and earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints, but yet let us honour all men, and love the brotherhood.

THANKSGIVING.

O Father of mercies, we have abundant cause to praise thee, for the many temporal as well as spiritual blessings which we enjoy. and move and have our being.

In thee we live Thou hast brought preserved us to this

us through unseen dangers, and day under the shadow of thy wing. O Lord, what shall we render unto thee for all thy benefits? Enable us to shew forth our gratitude to thee, not only with our lips, but also in our lives; by bringing forth the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ to the praise and glory of thy grace.

Almighty and most merciful Father, we desire to glorify thy name: thou hast done more for us than

we have known how to ask or think: we cannot praise thee as we ought. Thou hast sent thy only Son into the world, to redeem us from sin and everlasting death. How great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, which thou hast prepared for them that trust in thee ! Our souls do bless thee O Lord; and all that is within us doth bless thy holy name.

O Lord, we thank thee for all our present happiness in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, for all our deliverances from trouble and bondage; for our joy and peace in believing; for the spiritual comfort which we have found in one another, in our family and in thy whole church. Yet we thank thee especially for our better and brighter hopes above; in that we are fellow-citizens with the saints and household of God; in fellowship with angels; fellow-heirs of immortality. Let us walk with them here in all holy obedience and love, that we may be rendered meet to join them in glory.

Gracious God, help us to value all our privileges, and to live more worthily of them, through our only Lord and everlasting Saviour Jesus Christ, to whom with thee, O Father, and thee O holy blessed Spirit, be honour and glory world without end.

Our Father, which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done

in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation: But deliver us from evil; For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, let thy mercy be shewed upon us, as we do put our trust in thee. Amen.

FRIDAY EVENING.

CONFESSION.

Holy Lord God, we bow before thee this night, as miserable sinners, as humble suppliants for thy compassion: we are less than the least of all thy mercies; we have all sinned and come short of thy glory but thou art gracious and long-suffering, and hast pity upon thy servants for thy dear Son's sake.

Thou hast graciously assured us, that whoso confesseth and forsaketh his sins, shall find mercy. Help us therefore to confess all our iniquity with a true godly sorrow; and to approach thee with the sacrifice of a broken and contrite heart, which thou, O God, wilt not despise.

Almighty Father, how great is thy goodness in permitting us to approach thy throne! Thou hast commanded us to pray without ceasing; to draw nigh unto thee with holy fear and holy love. Yet how do we abuse this precious privilege; how ill do we perform this duty. We confess and bewail our want of reverence, and the iniquity that cleaveth to our daily devotions. We are unprofitable servants, and all our services are nothing worth. But, O merciful Father, we pray thee graciously to accept us in the name of that beloved Son, in whom thou art well pleased; who sitteth at the right hand of the Majesty on high, to offer the prayers of thy people, and to make them an acceptable sacrifice. He hath received gifts for men, the gifts of the Holy Spirit : send them unto us, good Lord; pour down upon us a more abundant measure of grace and supplication, that we may worship thee in spirit and in truth.

O thou Shepherd of Israel, how have we forsaken thy fold; how have we gone into the ways of the world, and the ways of our own devising! All we like sheep have gone astray, and have turned every one to his own way. Thou mightest justly have left us to perish but thy property is to have mercy. After all our wanderings, we flee unto thee, thou good Shepherd, who didst lay down thy life for the sheep. Surely thou wast wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities. Though we have been as sheep going astray, thou hast com

passion upon us; and, as thou hast inclined, so do thou enable us to return unto thee, the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls.

SUPPLICATION.

We humbly beseech thee, O Father, mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and, for the glory of thy name, turn from us all those evils that we most righteously have deserved; and grant that, in all our troubles, we may put our whole trust and confidence in thy mercy; and evermore serve thee in holiness and pureness of living, to thy honour and glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

O Almighty God, who resistest the proud, but givest grace to the humble, we beseech thee to humble us in our own sight. Mortify in us every thought, that would exalt itself against thy sovereign grace. Discover to us our utter helplessness, and our innumerable acts of rebellion against thee. O let us never seek to dissemble nor conceal our guilt; but do thou bow down our hearts in the deepest selfabasement, and give us true repentance and a holy life, through Jesus Christ our Mediator and Redeemer.

We desire, O Lord, to be numbered among thy
