On motion, the Convention separated, for the purpose of electing Delegates to the General Convention. When the Convention again united, it appeared that the following persons had been elected Delegates to the General Convention, and their election was thereupon confirmed by a joint vote of both orders.

Resolved, That the Rt. Rev. Bishop Brownell, be authorized to appoint substitutes to attend the General Convention in the place of Delegates appointed by this Convention, who shall fail to attend.

Resolved, That a Committee be appointed to examine the Journal of the last General Convention and report the subjects which require the attention of this body.

The Rev. Messrs. Hull and Holcomb, and Samuel F. Lambert Esq., were appointed the Committee.

On motion, adjourned to 2 o'clock, this afternoon.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th, 2 o'clock, P. M. The Convention met pursuant to adjournment.-The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and approved.

On motion, Resolved, That the Treasurer of the Convention Fund be authorised to repay to the Treasurer of the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge, the sum of $45, advanced by the latter, the Assessment for the expenses of the General Convention. On motion of the Rev. Mr. Hull, Resolved, That it shall be the duty of the Secretary of the Convention to notify the delegates to the General Convention by letter or otherwise, of their several appointments, and if he does not receive a notice of their acceptance at least four weeks before the next General Convention, it shall be considered a non-acceptance on their part, and the Bishop shall fill their places according to the preceding resolution.

The Committee on Cheshire Academy made the following report, which was accepted:

The Committee appointed to inquire into the situation of the Academy at Cheshire, and report what course this Convention should take with regard to it, report

That, so far as they can ascertain, the Trustees have had no meeting for more than two years, and that little can be known of its situation without such meeting. They therefore recommend a meeting of the Trustees as soon as convenient, and that they ascertain the situation of the funds of said Institution, and provide some means, if possible, to resuscitate the same.

The Rev. Messrs. Paddock, Kellogg, and Nichols, and Mr. Felix Starkey a lay-delegate from Essex appeared and took their seats.

On motion of the Rev. Mr. Huntington, Resolved, That the Deputies to the next General Convention are hereby instructed to bring before that body the expediency of forming a General Education Society.

The parochial reports of the Rev. Messrs. Fuller, Paddock, Kellogg, Nichols, and Kemper, were presented.

The Rev. Messrs. Guion and Covell, were appointed a Committee to ascertain and report the number of Trustees of the General Theological Seminary, to which this diocese is entitled.

On motion of the Secretary, the following was adopted as an addition to the 1st Canon: "And at every visitation the minister of each parish, or the wardens, if the parish be vacant, shall submit to the bishop for his inspection, the Parish Register.

The Committee appointed to examine the Journal of the last General Convention, stated the several subjects which were to be submitted to the consideration of the Diocesan Conventions.

Whereupon, it was Resolved, That the Deputies to the next General Convention, are hereby instructed to oppose the proposed alteration of the Rubric before the Selection of Psalms.

On motion of the Rev. Mr. Pyne, Resolved, That this Convention, impressed with a sense of the benefits already enjoyed by the Church, in consequence of the establishment of Washington College, and fully convinced that this Institution may be recommended to the patronage of this and other states, not only as a Church, but as a literary Institution of high eminence, do now proceed to the election of five persons to attend the examinations in August next.

In compliance with this resolution, the Rev. Messrs. A. S. Todd, Huntington and Paddock, and Ebenzer Jackson, Jr. Esq. of Middletown, and Dr. Andrews of Wallingford, were appointed to attend the examinations of Washington College, in August next.

The Committee appointed to ascertain and report the number of the Trustees of the General Theological Seminary to which this Diocese is entitled, reported that the number is ten.

On motion, Resolved, That a Committee be appointed to nominate Trustees for the General Theological Seminary: whereupon the Rev. Messrs. Croswell and Stratton, and Samuel Tudor, were appointed.

On motion of the Rev. Mr. Hull, Resolved, That this Conven. tion do earnestly recommend to the Congregations of this Diocese, the adoption of the scriptural and primitive plan of weekly charity recently revived in the Diocese of New Jersey by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Doane; which is briefly set forth in these words of St. Paul, 1 Cor. xvi. 2. "Upon the first day of the week, let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him :" and that the mode

of receiving such weekly contributions, and the objects to which they shall be appropriated, be left to the discretion of the Rector of each Church, in consultation with such members of his congregation as may feel an interest in the subject.

The Committee appointed to nominate Trustees of the General Theological Seminary, made the following nominations, which were approved by a vote of the Convention :

Resolved, That the thanks of this Convention be given to the Secretary for his services; to the Rev. Mr. Morgan for his Sermon, preached last evening in behalf of the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge, and to the Rev. Mr. Curtis for his Convention Sermon.

Resolved, That this Convention adjourn, after the customary acts of devotion.

The 133d Psalm was sung; appropriate prayers were read by the Bishop, who closed the exercises with the benediction.

The Convention then adjourned.
