until they shall be called by Him, who redeemed us to God by His blood, to join the Church triumphant, where all the ransomed of the Lord, shall receive a crown of unfading glory.

CHRIST CHURCH, GREENWICH.

In addition to the usual services at Greenwich, I have preached three fourths of the past year, every other Sunday evening, to a very attentive congregation in the neighborhood of Glenville.

The increase during the past year, in attendance and devotion to the best interests of Christ Church, has been as great as could be expected, consequently I feel warranted in reporting this Church in a condition decidedly prosperous.

As the Parish at this time is destitute of a Rector, the delegates would Report:

Mr. Corson, 1; whole number, 23; marriages, by the Rev. S. C. Stratton, 4; Rev. S. S. Stocking, 1.

There are two excellent libraries, the Sunday School and the adult; the former containing about 600 volumes, and the latter about 225.

In consequence of the Parish being destitute of a Rector, the offerings of the Church which have supported the libraries and done much for other charitable purposes, have nearly ceased.

Sunday School in operation, containing about 100 scholars.

Since the resignation of the Rev. Mr. Stratton, the Pulpit has been supplied by the Rev. Mr. Tomlinson, the Rev. Abel Nichols, the Rev. S. S. Stocking, and is at present supplied by the Principal of the Newtown Academy, the Rev. L. H. Corson.

SUMMARY OF PAROCHICAL REPORTS.

Reports have been received from 63 Parishes; of which only 53 have given the number of families;-only 50, the number of baptisms; and only 52, the number of communicants. By a reference to the Journals of former years, we find reported in 1834; Families in 48 Parishes,

[blocks in formation]

It will be seen from these data, that according to the reports, as made to the Convention, there has been only 386 persons added to our Communion in the last six years. Now a glance at the reports of those six years, will show that there has been a mistake somewhere. The number of communicants added to the several congregations during these several years, as reported to the several Conventions, are given below. We add also a comparative view of the Church for twenty one years, beginning with 1819, and ending with 1840. The first column contains the year; the second, the number of Clergy having Cures within the Diocese, at the time of the meeting of the

Convention; the third, the number of Parishes that reported any increase
of Communicants; the fourth, the number of Communicants added; and
the fifth, the number of Confirmations.

[blocks in formation]

This table gives only the whole number of communicants during this pe-
riod. Before 1831, we are not able to give the actual increase, after deduct-
ing the losses by death and removals. The following table gives the actual
increase since 1831.

[blocks in formation]

Actual increase of Communicants reported in nine years, 2541; Confir-
mations during the same period, 4070; new Communicants added dur-
ing the same period, 4347; Confirmations the last three years, 1288;
new Communicants added in the period, 1772. It will be seen from
the foregoing table, that the actual increase of Communicants in the Episco-
pal Church, since, 1834, has been 1298. This, added to the number re-
ported that year, 5082, would give us now, 6380 instead of 5468, the number
reported, leaving a difference of 912, from which 386 should be deducted,
leaving 562 unaccounted for. It follows, therefore, most clearly, that there
is some mistake, which ought to be rectified; and we are satisfied that an en-
tire revision of all the parochial registers should be made, with an especial
reference to this point.
