GOSPEL. Luke xxiv. 13. 35.

AT that time: Two of the disciples of Jesus -w ent that very day to a town called Emmaus, sixty furlongs from Jerusalem. And they talked together concerning all those things that had happened. And it came to pass, while they were talking together and reasoning with each other, Jesus himself drawing near, went on with them: but their eyes were held that they might not know him. And he said to them: What is the discourse you are holding together, as you walk along, and are sad? And one of them, whose name was Cleophas, ans •wered and said: Art thou alone a stranger in Jerusalem, and knowest not what hath happened there within these few days > To whom he said: What? They answered: concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a Prophet powerful in work and word in the sight of God, and of all the people; and how our chief Priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. And we hoped it was he, who was to have redeemed Israel: and now with regard to all these things, this is the third day since they happened. Yea, and certain women of our company have affrighted us; who had been before day-light at the monument; and not finding his body, they came and told us that they had seen also a vision of Angels, who say he is alive again. And some of our men went to the monument, and found it even as the women had said: but they found not him. And he said to them: O ye foolish and slow of heart in believing what the Prophets have said! Was not the Christ to suffer all these things, and so enter into his glory? And beginning from Moses and all the Prophets, he expounded to them, whatever concerned himself throughout the whole Scripture. And they drew nigh to the town, whither they were going. And he made as if he was going farther. And they pressed him saying: Stay with us, for the evening is coming on, and the day is far spent. And he went into the house with them. And it came to. pass, that while he was at table with them, he took bread and blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another; Did not our hearts burn within us, whilst he talked to us in the way, and expounded to us the Scriptures? And they rose up immediately, and went back to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven all together, who, as well as those that were with them, said: The Lord is certainly risen, and hath appeared to Simon. And they related what had happened in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of bread. Credo. 1

IN those days: Paul standing up, and with his hand bespeaking silence, said: Brethren, children of the seed of Abraham, and whosoever among you fear God; unto you is this word of salvation sent. For those, who dwelt at Jerusalem and their rulers not knowing Jesus, nor the words of the Prophets, which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. And tho' they found no cause of death in him, they begged of Pilate that they might put him to death. And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb. But God raised him from the dead on the third day. And he was seen for many days by those, who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem; and are to this day his witnesses to the people. And we declare to you that promise, which was made to our forefathers; for God hath fulfilled the same to our children, by raising up Jesus Christ our Lord.

GOSPEL. Luke xxiv. 36. 46.

AT that time: Jesus stood in the midst of his disciples., and said to them: Peace be with you: it is I. fear not. But they being troubled and affrighted, thought it was a spirit they saw. And he said to them: Why are you disturbed, and why do such thoughts arise in your minds? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: feel and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me have. And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and his feet. But they not yet believing, and wondering for joy, he said: Have you here any thing to eat? And they set before him a piece of broiled fish, and a honey-comb. And when he had eaten before them, he took the remainder, and gave it to them, and he said to them: This is what I told you, while I was yet among you: that all that is written in the law of Moses, and in the Prophets, and in the Psalms concerning me, must be fulfilled. Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures, And he said unto them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again the third day: and that repentance, and the remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations. Credo.

WEDNESDAY in EASTER WEEK. MASS. Intrott. Matt. 25. Come you blessed of my Father, receive the kingdom, Alleluia: which hath been prepared for you from the beginning of the world. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Ps. Sing to the Lord a new gong : sing to the Lord all the earth. V. Glory. COLLECT. Deus, qui nos.

God, who, by'the yearly solemnity of the resurrection of our Lord, fillest us with joy: mercifully grant, that, by these temporal festivals, which we celebrate, we may at last come to the possession of those joys that are eternal. Thro' the same.

From this day to Saturday inclusively, after the ColLect of the day, is said the Collect: Ecclesise tuae. p. lxxii. or: Deus omnium, ih. with their respective Secrets and Postcommuntons in their proper places. LESSON. Acts iii. 13. 19.

IN those days: Peter opening his mouth, said: You men of Israel, and you who fear God, give ear. The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our forefathers hath glorified his Son Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied before Pilate, when he judged he ought to be released. But you refused the Holy one, and the righteous one, and desired a murderer to be granted you: and you put to death the author of life, whom God raised from the dead, whereof we are witnesses. And now, brethren, I know you did it thro' ignorance, as did also your Rulers. But God hath fulfilled what he foretold by the mouth of his Prophets, that his Christ should suffer. Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

GRAD. This is the day the Lord hath made, come let us exult and rejoice thereon. V- Ps. 117- The right hand of the Lord hath exerted its might; the right hand of the Lord hath raised me up. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Luke 24. The Lord is certainly risen, and hath appeared to Peter.
