I. LESSON. Lev. xxiii. 26. 32.
IN those days: The "Lord spoke to Moses, saying: On the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the most solemn day of atonement, and it shall be called holy: you shall afflict your souls on that offer a whole
burnt-offering to the Lord. You shall do no servile work during that day: for it is a day of propitiation, that the Lord your God may be merciful to you. Every soul that is not afflicted on this day, shall perish from among its people: and every soul that shall do any work, the same will I destroy from among its people. You shall do therefore no work on it: it shall be an everlasting ordinance to you throughout all generations, and in all your abodes. It is a Sabbath of rest; and you shall afflict your souls on the ninth day of the month; from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbaths; saith the Lord Almighty.
GRAD. Ps. 78. Pardon us, O Lord, our sins; never let the Gentiles say; Where is now their God? V. Help us, O God, our Saviour; and deliver us for the honour of thy own name, O Lord.

II. LESSON. Lev. xxiii. 39. 43.
IN those days : The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: From the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you shall have gathered in all the fruits of your land, you shall celebrate feasts of the Lord for seven days. On the first day and on the eighth day shall there be a Sabbath, that is, a day of rest. And on the first day you shall take the fruits of the fairest tree, and branches of palm-trees, and boughs of a tree with thick leaves, and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God. And you shall keep the solemnity thereof seven days every year. It shall be an everlasting ordinance in your generations. In the seventh month shall you celebrate this feast, and you shall dwell in shady bowers seven days. Every one who is of the race of Israel shall dwell in tabernacles, that your posterity may know, that I made the children of Israel dwell in tabernacless when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.

HI.' LESSON. Micheas vii. 14.
OLORD our God: Govern thy people with thy crook, the flock of thy inheritance, dwelling solitary in the forest, according to the days of old. The Gentiles shall see and be confounded at all their strength. Who is God like thee, who takest away iniquity, and passest over the sins of the remnant of thy inheritance? He will not send forth his wrath any more, because he delightheth in mercy. He will return and have mercy on us: he will put away our iniquities: and he will cast all our sins to the bottom of the sea. Thou wilt perform thy sure promise to Jacob, and thy mercy to Abraham: as thou didst swear to our fathers from the days of old, O Lord our God.
GRAD. Ps. 89. Turn to us, O Lord, a while, and hear thy servants. V. Thou, O Lord, hast been our refuge from generation to generation.

IV. LESSON. Zach. viii. 14.
IN those days: The word of the Lord came to me, saying: Thus saith the Lord God of hosts: As I purposed to afflict you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, and I had no mercy: so now turning again, I have thought in these days to do well to the house of Juda and Jerusalem: fear not. These then are the things which you shall do : speak ye truth every man to his neighbour . and perform ye truth and the judgment of peace at your gates. And let none of you devise evil in his heart against his friend: and love you not a false oath. For all these are the things which I hate, saith the Lord, And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: the fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Juda, joy, and gladness, and great solemnities: only love ye truth and peace; saith the Lord of hosts.
GRAD. Ps. 140. Let my prayer, O Lord, ascend like incense in thy sight. V. And let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice. Let us pray. Let us kneel down. R. Stand up again.
V. COLLECT. Ut nobis. As it is by thy grace, O Lord, we render thee the tribute of this solemn fast; so grant us, we beseech thee, the favour of thy mercy and pardon. Thro'.
V. LESSON. Dan. iii. 49.
IN those days; The angel of the Lord, went down with Azariss and his companions into the furnace; and he drove the flame of fire from out of the furnace, and he made the midst of the furnace as a breeze of wind with dew. But the flame spread all above the furnace nine and forty cubits; and it broke forth, and burnt those of the Chaldees, the servants of the King, whom it found near the furnace, who had kindled it. But the fire touched not Azarias and his companions, it troubled them not, neither did it them any harm. Then those three, as with one mouth, praised, glorified, and blessed God in the furnace, saying:

BLESSED art thou, O Lord, the God of our forefathers; and worthy of praise and glory for ever. And blessed is the name of thy glory, which is holy; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
Blessed art thou in the temple of thy glory; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
Blessed art thou upon the sacred throne of thy kingdom; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
Blessed art thou leaning on the sceptre of thy divinity; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
Blessed art thou, who sittest on the Cherubim, beholding the deep; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
Blessed art thou, who walkest on the wings of the winds, and on the waves of the sea; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.
May all the Angels and thy holy ones bless thee; may they praise and glorify thee for ever.
May the heavens, earth, sea, and all therein bless thee; may they praise and glorify thee for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; who is worthy of praise and glory for ever.
As it was in the beginning, now is, and evermore shall be, world without end. Amen. Who is worthy of praise and glory for-ever.
Blessed art thou, O Lord, the God of our forefathers; and worthy of praise and glory for ever.

VI. COLLECT. Deus, qui trihus. O God, who in behalf of the three young men didst render harmless the flames of fire; mercifully grant, that we thy servants may not be burnt by the flames of vice. Thro'.
Here are said the second and third Collect as directed, p. 204.
EPISTLE. Heb. ix. 2. J 2.
BRETHREN: There was a first tabernacle, in which were the candlestics, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the Holy. And behind the second veil was the tabernacle called the Holy of Holies, having.the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid on every side with gold, in which was the golden urn containing the Manna, and Aaron's rod, which blossomed, and the tables of the covenant. And over it were the Cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercyseat; concerning which it is not needful to speak now particularly. Now these things being thus ordered; the priests always went into the first tabernacle indeed to perform the ministry of the sacrifices; but into the second the high priest alone went once a year, not without blood, which he oftereth for his own sins of ignorance, and those of the people: the Holy Ghost signifying this, That the way into the Holy of Holies was not as yet laid open, whilst the former tabernacle was still standing. Which is a parable of the time still present; according to which gifts and sacrifices are offered, which are not capable to make him perfect, as to conscience, who serveth only in meats, and in drinks, and divers washings, and righteousnesses of the flesh, imposed till the time of amendment. But Christ being come, the high-priest of the good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of this creation -r neither
by the blood of goats or of calves, but by his own blood, entered once into the Holy of Holies, having purchased an eternal redemption.
TRACT. Psalm 116. Praise the Lord all ye nations; praise him all ye people; For his mercy is confirmed upon us; and the truth of the Lord remaineth for ever.
GOSPEL. Luke xiii. 6. 17
AT that time: Jesus spoke to the multitude this parable: A certain man had a fig-tree planted in his vineyard, and he came to look for fruit on it, and he found none. And he said to the dresser of the vineyard: Behold these three years I come looking for fruit on this figtree, and I find none. Cut it down therefore; why cuinbereth it the ground? But he answering, said to him: Lord, let it alone this year also, till I dig about it, and dung it. And if it then bear fruit; but if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. And he was teaching in the synagogue on the Sabbath. And behold a woman, who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years; and was bowed down, and could not look upwards at all. Whom when Jesus saw, he called her to him, and said to her: Woman, thou art delivered from thy infirmity. And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. And the ruler of the synagogue being angry that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath, speaking, said to the multitude: There are six days wherein you ought to work; in them therefore come, and be healed; and not on the Sabbath-day. And the Lord answering him, said: Ye hypocrites, doth not every one of you loose his ox or ass from the manger on the Sabbathday, and lead them to water? And ought not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath-day? And when he spoke these things, his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the things which were gloriously done by him.
OFFERT. Ps. 87. OLord God of my salvation, I have cried out in thy presence day and night; let my prayer, O Lord, come before thee.
SECRET. Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that the offerings presented before the eyes of thy Majesty, may obtain for us the grace of devotion, and everlasting life. Thro'.
