GOSPEL. Matt. xi. 25. 30.

T that time: Jesus answered, and said: I give thanks to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones. Yea, Father; for so it hath seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered up to me by my Father. And no one knoweth the Son, but the Father: neither doth any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom the Son shall be willing to reveal him. Come to me, all you that labour, and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls: for my yoke is sweet, and my burden is light.

LESSON. Acts xi. 21. 26: xiii. 31.

N those days: A great number believed, and were converted to the Lord, at Antioch. And the news thereof came to the ears of the Church that was at Jerusalem and they sent Barnaby as far as Antioch.

:

Who

being come thither, and seeing the grace of God, rejoiced; and exhorted all to continue firm in the resolution of their heart to the Lord: for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost, and of faith. And great numbers were converted to the Lord. Then Barnaby went to Tarsus to look for Saul: and having found him, he brought him to Antioch. And they continued there a whole year in that Church, and instructed a great multitude; so that the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.-Chap. xiii. And there were in the Church at Antioch prophets and teachers, among whom was Barnaby and Simon, who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, who had been the foster-brother of Herod the Tetrarch, and Saul. And while they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Ghost said to them: Set apart Saul and Barnaby for the work to which I have called them. And having fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

GOSPEL. Matt. x. 16. 22.

T that time: Jesus said to his disciples: Behold I

But beware of

wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and Scourge you in the Synagogues; and you shall be carried before governors and Kings on my account, for testimony to them and the Gentiles. But when they shall deliver you up, think not how, or what to speak, for it shall be given you at that hour what you shall speak. For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you. And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the Father the son. And children shall rise up against their parents, and put them to death. And you shall be hated of all men on account of my name: but he that persevereth to the end shall be saved. CREDO.
