LESSON. Ecclesiast. xxiv. 11.

Have sought every where for an abode, and I will settle in the lot of the Lord, Then the Creator of all things gave me his commands, and spoke to me; and he that made me, rested under my tabernacle*; and said to me; Dwell in Jacob, and take thy lot in Israel, and amongst my chosen people spread forth thy roots; and thus was I established in Sion, and settled in the holy city, and my empire in Jerusalem. And I took root amidst an honorable people, and in the lot of my God is his inheritance, and my habitation is in the midst of the holy things. I grew up like the cedar on Libanus, and as the cypress on mount Sion. I grew up like the palm in Cades, and as the grove of roses in Jericho. Like the beautiful olive-tree in the fields, and as the plane-tree on the way side near the waters did I grow up. Like cinnamon and sweet smelling balm I sent forth perfumes: like chosen myrrh, I sent forth a sweet odour.
