COLLECT. Beatorum. We beseech thee, O Lord, that the constancy of thy holy Martyrs Protus and Hyacinthus, may be an encouragement to us in our sufferings; and that, by their prayers, we may find a continual protection. Thro'.

SECRET. We offer thee, O Lord, in memory of thy holy Martyrs Protus and Hyacinthus, the gifts which are due to thee; grant, we beseech thee, that we may thereby receive the assistance necessary for eternal life.

POSTCOMM. Ut percepta. Grant, we beseech thee, O Lord, by the intercession of thy holy Martyrs Protus and Hyacinthus, that thy holy mysteries which we have received, may purify us.

GREAT work of mercy! death then died, when life died on the cross.

COLLECT. Deus, qui nos. O God, who this day fillest thy people with joy by the yearly solemnity of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross : grant, we beseech thee, that as we believe, in this mortal life, the sacred mystery of our redemption, we may find the blessed effects of it in the next. Thro'.

Here, and at the SECRET and POSTCOMMUNION, is made a Commemoration of the NATIVITY, as p. 409, &c. EPISTLE. Phil. ii. 5. as p. 292.

GRAD. Phil. ii. Christ, for our sakes, bocame obedient to death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also exalted him, and gave him a name above all names.

The people answered him: We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is the Son of Man? Then Jesus said to them: Yet a little while the light is with you; walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; for he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he goeth. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of the light. CREDO.

OFFERT. Lord, thy people by the sign of the cross, from the snares of all their enemies; that we may do thee laudable service, and our sacrifice may be acceptable. Alleluia.

Protege, Domine, plebem tuam per signum sanctæ crucis, ab insidiis inimicorum omnium; ut tibi gratam exhibeamus servitutem, et acceptable fiat sacrificium nostrum. Alleluia.

SECRET. Being to be nourished with the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the standard of the cross was blessed; we beseech thee, O Lord our God, that we may eternally enjoy the salutary effects of that precious cross, which we have the happiness to reverence. Thro'.
