MASS. INTROIT. Ps. xxxvi. righteous man shall utter wisdom, and his tongue shall speak judgment: The law of his God is in his heart. Ps. Be not emulous of evil-doers, nor envy those that work iniquity. V. Glory.

COLLECT. Beati Apostoli. Grant, O Lord, we may be aided by the prayers of blessed Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist: that what through our own weakness we cannot obtain, may be granted us by his intercession. Thro'.

T that time: Jesus saw a man sitting in the customhouse, called Matthew. And he said to him: Follow me. And he arose and followed him. And it came to pass, as he sat at table in the house, behold many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And the Pharisees seeing it, said to his disciples: Why doth your master eat with publicans and sinners? And Jesus hearing it, said, They that are in health, need not a physician: but they that are sick. Go and learn what this meaneth: I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners. CREDO.

OFFERT. Ps. xx. Thou hast set on his head, O Lord, a crown of precious stones: he asked of thee life, and thou didst grant him it. Alleluia.

Having received these

holy mysteries, O Lord, we humbly beseech thee: that by the intercession of thy blessed Apostle Matthew, what we have celebrated in thanksgiving for the glory bestowed on him, may be a remedy to us. Thro'.

SECRET of the same. Look down, we beseech thee, O Lord, on the offerings we make in memory of thy holy Martyrs, Mauritius and his Companions, and grant that we may ever be partakers of the fruit thereof by their intercession, in honour of whom they are acceptable to thee. Thro.'

POSTCOMM. of the same. Being refreshed with these heavenly and joyful mysteries, we humbly beseech thee, O Lord, that we may enjoy their protection, in whose triumphs we glory. Thro'.

COLLECT. Præsta. Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that celebrating the festival of thy holy Martyrs, Cosmas and Damianus, we may, by their intercession, be delivered from all impending evils. Thro'.

ed Christ, and are in possession of the glorious kingdom of heaven.

OFFERT. Ps. v. All that love thy name shall glory in thee, because thou, O Lord, wilt bless the righteous man; thou hast covered us, O Lord, as with the shield of thy love.

SECRET. Let us not be deprived, O Lord, we beseech thee, of the pious intercession of thy saints, which may render our offerings acceptable to thee, and obtain for us pardon of our sins. Thro'.

COMM. Ps. lxxviii. They gave the bodies of thy servants, O Lord, to be meat for the fowls of the air, the flesh of thy saints to the beasts of the field; according to the power of thy arm protect the children of those that have been slain.

POSTCOMM. Protegat. We beseech thee, O Lord, to assist thy people by virtue of this heavenly banquet, and the joint intercession of thy saints. Thro'.
