Anno Mundi

Chiift Born Ante Chrifti, 3966, at Bethleham, in Judea, Dec. the 24th, 11th Hour, 45 Minutes paft Noon; Spica Virginis then Rifing with Jupiter, in the East.

And the Sun then in two Degrees of Capricorn. And confequently the true Christmas Day, this prefent Year 1735, on the thirteenth Day of Dec. with us according to the Julian Stile.

Hence

Hence the Monarchy of the Romans began in Julius Cefar, 48 Years before the Birth of Chrift, and the fourth Year of his Reign he reformed the Calendar, whence it is called the Julian Period or Stile, which to this Day we retain, and now errs 12 Days, fo that if we were to leave out the odd Day in February, 12 Leap Years, we should come right, and our Stile agree with the Gregorian Calendar corrected by Pope Gregory.

Some of the Acts of our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST, from his Birth, in the forty fecond Tear of the Reign of Auguftus Cæfar, to his Paffion.

H

E was conceived by the Holy Ghoft in Nazareth, and Born of the Virgin Mary at Bethleham; eight Days after his Birth he was Circumcifed, the 40th Day he was presented in the Temple, when the Time of his Mother's Purification were accomplished the 3d Year Chrift was carried into Egypt and continued there 2 Years; the 6th Year came out of Egypt, to Galilee, and at 12 Years old he went up to Jerufalem, at the Feaft of the Paffover, and was found difputing among the Doctors; the 30th Year he was Baptized, and began to preach.

A little before Chrift revealed himself, there was a Councel of Priefts gathered together at Jerufalem, to chufe a Prieft, in the Room of one deceafed: And whilft they thought, fome on one Man, fome on another, there ftepped forth a Prieft, one of the Company, and faid, my Will is that Jefus the Son of Jofeph the Carpenter be elected Prieft, who though he be young in Years, yet Excelleth he in Utterance, Wisdom, and Manners; I think truly there was never fuch a one, both for Eloquence, Life, and Manners, which I am fure all that inhabit Jerufalem, do know as well as I.

Which

Which was no fooner fpoken, but was allowed off, and Jefus, chofen to be a Prieft, they called for his Parents to Regifter their Names: The Prieft that favoured Jefus faid, that Jofeph his Father was dead, yet Mary his Mother was alive; fhe was brought before them, who affirmed that the was his Mother, but that he had no Father on Earth; that she was a Virgin, and that the Holy Ghoft had overshadowed her; they sent for the Midwives and fuch as had been present at the Birth; and fhe was found to be a Virgin : Whereupon it was concluded with one Voice, that he fhould be registered Jefus the Son of God, and Mary the Virgin.

Wherefore Jofephus faith, that Jefus facrificed in the Temple together with the Priefts, and alfo entered into the Synagogue of the Jews, and read of the Prophet Ifaiah; thefe Things Suidas learned of a few.

Anno Chrifti 34, on the Tenth Day of March Chrift came over Jordan into Bethabara; the Eleventh Day hearing of the Disease of Lazarus, he continued there two Days, the Thirteenth Lazarus died, and Christ took his Journey to go and raife him ;, the Fourteenth he entered into Jericho and healed the Son of Timeus; the Fiftheenth he spent by the Way, the Sixteenth he came to Bethania, where he raised Lazarus, now four Days dead; the Seventeenth he came near the Defert, into the City of Ephraim. The Eighteenth he continu'd in the Defert; the Nineteenth he returned to Bethania and fupped with Lazarus; the Twentieth Day was Palm Sunday fo called, because the Multitude took Branches of Palm Trees and went to meet Jefus coming to Jerufalem: That Evening he returned to Bethania, M. 21, coming out of Bethania, he curfed the Fig Tree; in the Evening he went out of the City, T. 22; in the Morning he paffed by the withered Fig Tree, and that Night fupped in Bethania, in the Houfe of Simon the Leper; and two Days after was the Feast of the Paffover: W. 23, Judas covenanted to betray him: T. 24 in the Evening Chrift celebrated the Jews Paffover, afterwards his own, called the Lord's Supper; he washed his Difciples Feet and came into Mount Olivet, prayed and fweated Blood, then taken and brought to Caiphas, and Peter denied him.

Hence our Saviour Chrift Jefus, when he had lived on Earth 33 Years full, and fomewhat more, fuffered Death for the Salvation of Mankind on the 25th Day of March, Anno Mundi 4000.
